Jackie Robinson Brackens, 76, of Gonzales, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born on August 27, 1948, in Teague, Texas to his parents Audrey Mae and Lloyd Robinson.
At the age of 18, Jackie joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he was awarded with the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon his return home, Jackie went to vocational school and worked as an LVN for almost 15 years. He then went onto pipeline work to maintenance to being a repairman. Jackie had a curiosity to learn a little about everything if he could. Jackie made friends everywhere he went, he had a way of talking and connecting with people. He was known to make his friends and family laugh; you could expect to get a text at 2 in the morning with a funny video or a post he came across on Facebook. He could tell you great stories of his life and of his time in Vietnam, and he was always great company to have. He had lots of friends between Gonzales and Luling, if you had a pasture he could fish on he didn't turn down the invitation when it was given, and he always caught a bite.
Jackie loved his family; he shared his love of jazz music, fishing and dominoes with his children and grandchildren. Every Christmas gathering was sure to have jazz music blasting throughout the house and an all-day game of dominoes. His family has fond memories of spending time with Jackie fishing and hearing his great stories. He was free-spirited and always had an itch to go out and do something, you couldn't keep him cooped up in the house for long. Jackie's life was filled with adventure, love and laughter and he will be greatly missed by all who got to know him.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Heather Brackens, his children Huong Brackens (Cherry), Dionne Brackens, Jacquline Russell, Tasha Jefferson, Gloria Dixon, Matias Guess and Cassandra Hatcher (Daniel), his brother Lloyd Robinson and sisters Eva Marie Byrd and Yvonne Sloan. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Audrey Mae and Lloyd Robinson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in his honor.
All services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas.
