Barbara Lane Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Jun. 20 to Jun. 21, 2010.
Barbara Ellen Lane

Barbara Ellen Lane of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away to her heavenly home on Friday evening, June 18, 2010.

She was born in Hinton, West Virginia, where she met and married the love of her life. Their union spanned 62 years and was only briefly interrupted by his passing last year. What a heavenly reunion there must have been this Friday past.

Her face in her later years was one wrinkled by a life time of smiles and laughter. She was well known by her friends and family for her quick wit and charm. She was always there to help celebrate accomplishment and ease the disappointment of failure. Her ear was always made available for those in need of a listener and her Christian love was available to help the healing. For all of us fortunate enough to have known her there will always be a place in our heart left empty by her absence.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd; her parents, Lacey and Leona Ratliff; her brother, Junior; and a sister, Eloise Cooper.

She is survived by her sisters, Polly Keaton of Nimitz, West Virginia, and Martha Heartly of Virginia Beach. She leaves behind her four children, Floyd A. Lane and his wife, Rebecca of Covington, John M. Lane and his wife, Mary, of Palmyra, Rebecca M. Bond of Afton, and Joseph L. and his wife, Deborah, of Charlottesville; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Heather, John, Nathan, Sara, Ben, and Kevin; as well as her great- grandchildren, Kristie, Logan, Zach, Emily and Isaac will be among those mourning her loss.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. prior to the service at Mount Ed Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Ronald Nickell officiating.

Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

As a child, I grew up with this family and spent many days in their home as our families were great friends. Their home was a wonderful place to hang out as Ms. Lane made it so special. I still remember the fun times we shared with her, her laughter, her values, and her many words of wisdom, in a time when family was so important. Her home was a fun place because she made it fun, and I always loved hanging out there. I cherished those days and still carry those memories thru my adult life. She is a wonderful example to families today....Home is where the Heart is!

Bobbie was a very dear friend and yes she was always there for me with that big smile and listening ear.She always made me feel very much like a family member instead a friend. We had alot of joyful times when her and Lloyd lived on Batesville Road and of course
we Worshiped together at Mt.Ed. Baptish Church each Sunday. My pictures now will keep me close in thought of Bobbie. My condolence goes out to all the family for this lost. God Bless each one of you as you heal from this loss.

This is for my Aunt Bobbie- You and Uncle Floyd always made my family and friends welcome at your home. Your homemade macaroni and cheese was the BEST! My son Ryan still has the WWII book that Uncle Floyd gave him. Thanks for the love and kindness we won't forget. Mom and I will be there on Tuesday. Susan Hartley Potter of Hampton

I had the very great privilege of being a daughter in law to this lovely woman. The good times I had with Bobbie are many. Always so full of life and laughter. She and her husband Floyd served as wonderful grand parents to my son Ben and he loved them both dearly. I am sure as she entered Heaven there were many hugs and kisses going around. I know that she has taken delight in meeting Jesus of whom she spoke of often and loved very much. You will always have a special place in my heart Bobbie.
