Carl Thomas Lasley Jr., 86, of Charlottesville, died on Monday, May 3, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Charlottesville on January 2, 1924, the son of the late Carl Thomas Lasley Sr. and Bessie Smith Lasley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Lasley Barksdale; and a niece, Elizabeth Ashby Sebastian.

Mr. Lasley was a retired Building Contractor after operating Lasley Construction Company for more than 24 years. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the Armed Forces overseas during World War II under General Patton's 3rd Army, 89th division and remained in the Military Intelligence Reserve.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #60 AF & AM. Piedmont Shrine Club, ACCA Temple Shrine and a former member of the Charlottesville Albemarle Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Jefferson Lions Club and Farmington Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hortense Day Lasley of Charlottesville; a daughter, Anne Lasley Mykich and her husband, Robert; three sons, Carl Thomas Lasley III and his wife, Lynn, of Waynesville, North Carolina, Robert Day Lasley and his wife, Ingrid, of Northville, Michigan, Richard Lee Lasley of Nashville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Carl Thomas Lasley IV, Colin Tate Lasley, Carla Geer Morris, Caitlin Day Lasley, Keith Allen Morris, Alec Jordan Lasley, and Roselyn Brannon Lasley; two nieces, Mary Biggers Knauer and Stuart Bain.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Reverend Al Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family suggests that memorial be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle S.P.C.A., Hospice of the Piedmont. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Dare County Hospice of North Carolina, Outer Banks.
