Deirdre Jones Johnson

Deirdre Jones Johnson, of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Charlottesville, died peacefully at her home in Charlottesville, Monday, April 12, 2010, with two children by her side.

Deirdre was born February 15, 1930, in New York, to Lillian Hartigan Gibbs and Douglas Seymour Gibbs.

When her father died in 1941, Deirdre went to live with Dr. Edward Hallaran Jones and Margaret Stuart Jones of San Angelo, Texas, Hendersonville, North Carolina, Nokomis, Florida and New York City.

She was a graduate of The Spence School and Vassar College.

Deirdre served as a volunteer with the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary.

She helped organize the Decorator Show House to benefit Vassar College and she served as a Trustee for the Taft School.

Deirdre was a member of the Round Hill Club and the Field Club in Greenwich, Connecticut, the Colony Club in New York, The Onteora Club in Tannersville, New York, Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, and the Mill Reef Club in Antigua, West Indies.

A memorial service will be held May 14, 2010, at Saint Barnabas Church, in Greenwich, followed by a reception at the Round Hill Club.

She is survived by her four children, Deirdre and Megan LeBoutillier, Katharine Lagedrost, and Henry Fairfax Ayres III; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Christopher Lagedrost, Brennan, Andrew James and Molly Ayres.

She will be remembered for her beauty, her impeccable sense of style and her sense of humor.
