Effie Duaine Meadows

Effie Duaine Meadows, 91, of Elkton, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Life Care Center in New Market.

Mrs. Meadows was born October 18, 1918, in the Jollett area of Elkton, the daughter of the late Comie Milton and Goldie McDaniel Watson.

Mrs. Meadows was a lifetime resident of the Jollett area of Page County and attended the Jollett School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being surrounded by her family, babysitting and flowers. She was a member of the Jollett United Methodist Church.

On March 9, 1935, she married Howard Franklin Meadows who preceded her in death on November 3, 1994.

She is survived by a son, Dallas E. Meadows and his wife, Donna, of Elkton; four daughters, Agnes R. Davis of Elkton, Doris J. Winn of Blackstone, Lanie Elizabeth Knight of Elkton and Sandra M. Dinges of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Douglas Watson of Harrisonburg and Avis Watson of Grottoes; a sister, Dahlia Watson of Luray; 10 grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hensley Meadows.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Eunice Bell Meadows; a son, Philip R. Meadows Sr.; brothers, Nathan, Floyd, Dennis, Roy, Ray, Nelson, and Dan Watson; sisters, Irma Meadows, Nina Watson, Georgia Hine Wilson and Elsie Meadows.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Jollett Cemetery in Page County near Elkton with the Reverend Ray Eppard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jollett United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 34, Elkton, VA 22827.
