Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bishop

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bishop, 89, of Gordonsville, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Envoy At The Village Nursing Home in Fork Union.

She was born March 26, 1920, to the late John Wesley Ragland and Earline Lewis Ragland Maupin. She was a faithful member of the House of God in Gordonsville.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Thomas Bishop; a son, Curtis Bishop; her maternal grandparents, who raised her, Bishop Charles Lewis and First Lady Emma Mahanes Lewis; five brothers, John Ragland Sr., Luke Ragland, James Ragland, Moses Ragland, and Charles Ragland; and two sisters, Emma Anderson and Rebecca Ragland.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Bishop and his wife, Joyce, of Palmyra; seven grandchildren, Renee Hamner and her husband, Isaac, Melissa Ross and her husband, Andre, and Seleta "Dana" Mitchell and her husband, Joe, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lynette Cary and her husband, Michael, of Palmyra, Antionette Bishop of Stamford, Connecticut, Erica Nixon of Gordonsville, and Kiesha Bishop of Mississippi; 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Robert "Bob" Ragland of Vienna, Apostle Randolph Ragland and his wife, First Lady Ruth of Gordonsville, Matthew "Mack" Ragland of Richmond, George Ragland and his wife, Evvie, of Trevilian, and Carl Ragland of Gordonsville; and three sisters, Elect Lady Ruth Ragland and Flora Washington, both of Gordonsville, and Earline "Alice" Bishop of Maryland.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009, at the House of God in Gordonsville, with Elder James Ragland officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 12 until 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family expresses their gratitude to the Envoy At The Village Nursing Home in Fork Union for their dedicated care and service.

Thomasson Watson Funeral Service of Louisa is handling the arrangements.
