Emanuel Washington Sr.

Emanuel "Sleepy" Washington Sr., 52, of Howardsville, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Trinity Mission of Charlottesville.

He was born April 8, 1957, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Frances W. Smith. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Ellen Washington.

Mr. Washington served in the United States Army for eight years and was a furniture mover with Leon White Moving Company. He enjoyed playing pool and played as long as he was able. Another passion was football and his favorite team was the Washington Redskins.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Brenda Washington of Esmont; two sons, Emanuel Washington Jr. of Esmont and Brandon Washington of Newport News; three sisters, Ella Jordan and Junius, Thelma Washington and Lawrence, and Elisha Washington, all of Charlottesville; one brother, Alphonso Washington of Haynesville; a father-in-law, Edward Booker Sr. of Arvonia; a mother-in-law, Ruby Booker of Scottsville; two sisters-in-law, Mishelia Booker of Scottsville and Estella Hawkins and George of Palmyra; four brothers-in-law, Ronnie Booker of Norfolk, Eddie Booker and Carolyn, Danny Booker and Edward Booker Jr., all of Charlottesville; one uncle, James R. Washington and Deborah of Charlottesville; and four aunts, Liz Perkins and Bill of Charlottesville, Nannie Smith of Esmont, Cornelia Austin of Landover, Maryland, and Annie Powell of Washington, D.C.; two very special and close cousins, Kenneth and Bobby Washington; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the second floor staff at Trinity Mission.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Mt. Alto Baptist Church, in Howardsville, with the Reverend Sylvester Turner officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville.
