Harold L. Sheffer

Harold Lee "Pete" Sheffer, 81, formerly of 57 Creekside Drive, Lyndhurst, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on April 24, 1928, in Staunton, a son of William L. and Gladys (Wiseman) Sheffer.

He was a life-long carpenter and craftsman. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Tacoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville, Tennesse. He was a member of Staunton Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn May (Castle) Sheffer; two sisters, Wilda Sheffer and Patty Sheffer; a son-in-law, Boyd Wayne Hevener; and a granddaughter, Tara Merrell.

Surviving are five children, Dianna S. Hevener of Churchville, Vickie Bassett and her husband, Scott, of Waldorf, Maryland, Janet Donald and her husband, Wade, of Scottsville, Dennis Sheffer and his wife, Angie, of Troy, and Douglas Sheffer and his wife, Beth, of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Eugene Sheffer of Orrville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Barry Hevener and his wife, Martia, Darin Hevener, Heidi Wagner and her husband, Jon, Matthew Sheffer, and Benjamin Sheffer; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Sadie Hevener.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Staunton Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Daniel Darrikhuma officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Churchville.

Active pallbearers will be members of the family.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Bear Funeral Home in Churchville.
