Lawrence Sheffer Obituary
Lawrence Franklin Sheffer
November 26, 1946 - November 26, 2025
It is with deep love and gratitude that we honor the life of Lawrence Franklin Sheffer "Larry," a steadfast, compassionate, and quietly strong man whose presence shaped the lives of everyone he knew. Larry passed away peacefully in Richmond, Va., November 26, 2025. Born and raised in Staunton, Va., Larry grew up surrounded by the mountains, fields, and rivers that would become lifelong sources of joy. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and carried those values through discipline, integrity, and service throughout his life. Larry married his soulmate, Donna Brown Sheffer, and the two built a life defined by partnership, respect, and shared purpose. Together they raised their two children, Jeff and Chris. Larry cherished coaching Little League baseball for his sons, offering guidance in the game and in life. A man who felt most at home in nature, he loved gardening, spending time on the river, and appreciating the simple beauty of the land around him. This connection to the outdoors naturally drew him into the world of real estate. His intelligence and work ethic lead him to his career as a real estate appraiser. He later founded Resource Associates Inc., where he and Donna worked side by side to build a successful and respected business. He even won a land conservationist award in 2019. Those who knew Larry admired his wisdom. He faced everything with remarkable resilience and always protected those he loved. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and amazing grandfather. Larry is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Sheffer; grandson, Eric Sheffer; his parents, Forest and Mary Sheffer; his siblings, Charlotte Reid, Forest Sheffer Jr., and Jean Coffey. He is survived by his wife, Donna Sheffer; son, Christopher Sheffer; granddaughter, Jessica Rolston and husband, David; grandson, Matthew Sheffer and wife, Caitlyn; great-grandson, Noah; daughter-in-law, Barbara Sheffer; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry's legacy of kindness, strength, and quiet devotion will remain in the hearts of all who loved him.
A service will be held at Bennett's Funeral Home (West Chapel) at 11 a.m. December 5, 2025, visitation will be one hour prior, and followed by a processional to Greenwood Memorial Gardens at 12 p.m.
