Jean Lee Hill Woods

Jean Lee Hill Woods, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

She had a long, full, and active life. Her positive outlook, sunny disposition, and good humor endeared her to all she met. She was a loving and inspiring role model, aging gracefully and fulfilling her important role in the life of her immediate and extended family.

Jean moved to the Colonnades in 1995 where she led a very active social life and enjoyed frequent visits with her family. In recent years, her favorite activity was playing bridge as often as six days a week with a group of wonderful friends and partners.

She was born on December 31, 1915, in Charleston, West Virginia, daughter of Frank Jarrett Hill and Lillian Haines Hill of Alderson, West Virginia. Her father graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1906. Jean graduated from Charleston High School in 1934 and was married in 1938.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Reginald Foster Woods Jr., who died in 1977; her infant daughter, Nancy Carolyn Woods, who died in 1947; and her sister, Mary Frances Hill Robertson, who died in 2003.

She is survived by her son, Reginald Foster Woods III and his wife, Katharine Norden Woods, of Keswick. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Eric Arthur Woods and his wife, Sanya Lloyd Woods, of University City, Missouri, Elizabeth "Beth" Terry Woods Boyer and her husband, Kevin Michael Boyer, of Charlottesville, and Tracy Lee Woods Metz and her husband, Joshua Lee Metz, of Charlottesville; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Lee Metz, Ainsley Lachlan Boyer and Katharine May Metz. She is also survived by her second cousin, Harriet Hodges Mohler of Charlottesville, and an extended family of nieces and nephews, and their children, to whom she remained very close throughout her life.

Jean's family wishes to thank the management and staff of the Colonnades for her many happy years there, Dr. Diane G. Snustad and the staff of the Colonnades Health Center for their excellent care, and her many friends at the Colonnades for their love and companionship.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service, but a private interment service will be held on a future date at Grace Episcopal Church in Keswick.

Memorial contributions can be made to her favorite charity, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, PO Box 7305, Charlottesville, VA 22906.
