Lillie Ruth Shiflett

Lillie Ruth Shiflett, 83, of Charlottesville, died Friday, June 11, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born October 13, 1926, in Wilson, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Troy Mack Winbourne and late Lilly Barnes Winbourne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Lawrence Samuel Shiflett Sr; two sisters and three brothers; her daughter, Jennifer Louise Shiflett Kirby, and her husband, Larry De Wayne Kirby.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence S. Shiflett Jr. and his wife, Betty D. Shiflett of Barboursville; two grandsons, Christopher L. Kirby of Waynesboro, and Ryan A. Kirby and his fianc‚, Vicki Calvani, of Buckingham; two granddaughters, Charlotte S. Wood and her husband, W.C. Wood III, of Barboursville and Monica S. Johnson and her husband, Chris Johnson, of Charlottesville; three great- grandchildren, Scott and Sam Johnson, and Dylan Hofecker.

Ruth retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years of service as the Postmaster of the Earlysville, Virginia branch. She also retired from numerous years of service at Sears. She was a member of TOPS and the Earlysville Homemakers Club. Ruth enjoyed reading, travel, watching plays and musicals, visiting with friends, and dining. All who were blessed to have known her will dearly miss her company and conversation.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

A private funeral service will be conducted for family at a later date. Interment will follow at Prize Hill Cemetery in Boonesville, Virginia.
