Martha Adams McLeod

Martha Adams McLeod, 89, wife of the late Gilbert A. McLeod of Chesapeake, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

She is survived by her son, John Scott McLeod and his wife, Marcia, of Chesapeake; daughters, Alice M. Bibb and her husband, Fred, of Charlottesville, Nina Jo M. Hennessee of Chesapeake and Bessie M. Woods and her husband, Mike, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. She also leaves grandchildren, Heather Eubank and her husband, William, of Charlottesville, Jennifer Hennessee, Ashley and Tyler McLeod; and great-granddaughters, Delaney and Kaylan Eubank; sisters, Mary Brooks of Norfolk, Betty Jean Bogdanski of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Willis Ann McLeod Martin of Durham, North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Born in York, South Carolina, she lived most of her life in Norfolk. She loved the Lord from her youth and was always active in her church. Currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Chesapeake, she had been a founding and active member of Calvin Presbyterian Church and later Kempsville Presbyterian Church. A gifted floral designer, she retired from Turpin's Florist in Norfolk. She will be most remembered for her gracious hospitality; everyone was welcomed in her home. "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels" (Hebrews 13: 2). Who knows how many angels she has entertained? She enjoyed directing and catering countless weddings for friends and family, decorating with her own flower arrangements. She was a blessing to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chesapeake Regional Homecare Hospice.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday April 25, 2010. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1832 Elbow Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

Dear Family,
So sorry to read of your mom’s passing and pray for all of you during this difficult time. I know she was a good woman of sincere faith and trust that you all share this with her. She was a great neighbor to us on Ridgefield Drive and my parents always enjoyed her kindness and friendship throughout those many years.

God bless all of you,
Ron McKinley and family

Hey Nina,
We're (Chuck, Tim, & David) so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. One of the best memories I have is when we were all invited over for home made ice cream, and also when your mom would come over and pick all the figs from my tree and share her home made Fig preserves. Know that I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Love Maureen Scott (Bollinger)

Nina Jo,
I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost your mom. I pray that God will bring comfort and peace, and that many happy memories will help you through the days when the grief feels overwhelming. It's been literally decades since we roomed together at JMU and only slightly less time since we last talked together, but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers today.

Love & blessings,
Marlene Carter Passarelli
