Reed Stem

Minnie Joyce Reed Stem passed away at her home in Boca Grande, Florida, on Thursday, October 14, 2010, with her family gathered around as she began her "great adventure".

She was formerly of Sarasota, Florida, and Charlottesville, Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, Claude and Irene Reed of Charlottesville; and her beloved mother-in-law, Edith Stem, of Sarasota.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dick Stem of Boca Grande; her daughter, Edie Stem Reger and her husband, Gary; her daughter, Cindy Stem Olsen and her husband, Lew, of St. Cloud, Florida; her son, Richard of Myakka City, Florida; her brother, Claude Reed and his wife, Roma, of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Jena Reger, Summer and Jake Olsen, and Tyler and Adam Stem; and her close friend of 72 years, Betty Paine of Charlottesville.

Her family and friends remember Joyce for her sense of humor and above all, her strength. She moved from Charlottesville to Sarasota in 1953, for an almost 30 year career in medical technology, as an xray technician at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and later as a radiation therapist.

Upon her retirement, she and Dick moved to Boca Grande. She was an accomplished seamstress, designing and sewing a multitude of quits and devoted much time to gardening. But most of all, she was devoted to her family, leaving a void that cannot be filled.
