Nancy McConnell Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24, 2010.
Nancy Lee McConnell

On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, Nancy Lee McConnell lost her valiant battle with breast cancer at age 67.

She was the daughter of Russel and Leonora VandenBerg, and was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English and was a dedicated high school teacher for many years. She moved to Charlottesville in 1999 and was a realtor with REMAX Assured Properties.

Nancy was an avid gardener and a member of the Piedmont Garden Club. She always enjoyed the many pleasures of her books and pets.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA or the Breast Care Center at the University of Virginia Health System.

She is survived by her mother; her brother, Scott VandenBerg M.D. Ph.D.; and her daughter, Rebecca McConnell Green BS MAOM.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at 500 Park Street, First Presbyterian Church Chapel.

Nancy fought this disease harder than anyone I've ever known. She never gave up. She was a true professional and loved the real estate profession. She was always one of my supporters and friends. I will miss her very much.
