Nellie Haney Sims

Nellie Haney Sims, 106, of Stanardsville, Virginia, died on Monday, November 8, 2010, at her residence.

She was born on June 13, 1904, in Elkton, Virginia, to the late Alec and Roddie Smith Haney.

Mrs. Sims retired from Blue Bell in Madison which later became Wrangler after many years of service. Once retired, she devoted her time caring for her bed-ridden husband, Jesse Franklin Sims, who passed away in 1972. After his death she traveled extensively with the Charlottesville Senior Center going to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Europe and the western part of the United States.

She is survived by her loving son, Wayne Sims;, caregiver, Mary Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Jesse Sims, she was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010, at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Reverend Catharine Guest and the Reverend Paul Davis Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Gary Sims, Bobby Rhodes, Chuck Haney, Garland Mitchell, James Thurman, Donald Ray Sims, Adrien Sims and Charles Sims.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Sims name to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911, Greene County Rescue, P.O. Box 302 Stanardsville, VA 22973 and/or the Stanardsville Fire Company, P.O. Box 165, Stanardsville, VA 22973.

Ryan Funeral Home of Ruckersville is handling the arrangements.
