I heard about his passing just recently, my thoughts of the Fork and the kids that grew up there seem quite just now. I could hear him calling cattle on summer afternoons, even hear the door slam in the quiet of the mornings. Still see him cutting across the clearings fast walking behind the dog bird hunting after school. Maybe it was the difference in height, but the last time I saw him was my Mother's funeral, it never occurred to me he was over forty, he seemed like such a fixture. The Fork was a good life, a simple time, agrarian in operation. A few hounds, one good gun and always just barely enough land to raise children. Un-complex in heritage, uncomplicated in joy, as quiet and simple as God intended. It will not be much of a change and the neighbors will be able to hear him there as well.
