Opal Snow Collier

Opal Snow Collier, 84, of Charlottesville, died on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at home.

She was born June 25, 1926, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Edgar and Betty Snow. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Shirley T. Collier.

Opal was a retired Registered Nurse from the University of Virginia Medical Center with 35 years of nursing. She graduated from the University of Virginia Nursing School as a part of the then Corps of Nurses. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving her are two daughters, Cheryl C. Brunk and her fiancee, John Hanger, of Charlottesville, and Deborah C. Gaglio and her husband, Pete, of Midlothian; one son, T. Scott Collier and his wife, Kathy, of Macungie, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Tessa Hanger, Meredith Gaglio, John Gaglio, Chris Collier and Karen Collier; one brother, Harmon G. Snow and his wife, Hazel, of Silver Spring, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gregory Doull for his many years of compassionate medical care and numerous loving friends and neighbors, in particular, Jim and Mary Herndon.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow 3 p.m. in Stanardsville cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

Opal was a wonderful wife,mother and grandmother. She beamed with pride over the wonderful achievements of her children and grandchildren, She was an inspiration to all who knew her and especially her neighbors.She was my friend and confidante and we already miss her very much, but it very comforting to know she is back with Shirley, the love of her life and they are catching up withe the Marshalls, Darlings and Mrs Sweet.
