Richard Loftus Welsh

Richard Loftus Welsh, 89, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in Richmond, Virginia.

Born in Toronto, Canada, the son of Richard and Marietta Welsh, he was a resident of Charlottesville, Virginia, since 1960.

He leaves his daughter, Catherine Welsh of Richmond; a stepdaughter, Carol Zoeller of Fort Lauderdale; a step-daughter, Teresa DeMasters of Virginia Beach; and a stepson, Stephen DeMasters of Charlottesville.

Mr. Welsh was widowed by his wife, Patricia DeMasters Welsh in 2006.

Richard was a World War II veteran, where he served with the United States Army in Europe. Following service he pursued automobile racing and stock car modification followed by a life career in architectural drafting. After retirement, he was employed by HUD as a building inspector.

Mr. Welsh will be fondly remembered as a gifted storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor.

Memorial donations may be made to CARITAS of Richmond, Virginia.
