Rita McQueen

Rita McQueen, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Our Lady of Peace.

She will be greatly missed and her memory will continue as a source of unconditional love for all of her family and friends.

Rita was born February 10, 1923, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Mae and Mark Schnettler.

While working in Chicago, Rita married Herbert "Mac" McQueen and they lived most of their married life in Sioux City, Iowa. Rita enjoyed meeting her friends for a movie or dinner, playing cards with her bridge club and working on her flowers and yard. In 2006, Rita moved to Charlottesville to enjoy time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Herbert A. McQueen; her parents; and two brothers, Edward and Robert.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Marian Flament; two children, Mike of Des Moines, Iowa and Sandy; her son-in-law, Dan Redieske; three grandchildren, Chris, Leah and Bryan; and three great-grandchildren, Connor, Collin, and Kayla of Charlottesville.

In accordance with Rita's wishes, there will be no memorial service. She will return home to Iowa to be interred with her husband at Grand Meadows Cemetery, Cherokee County, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Peace, 751 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Sandy, I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. It certainly was nice that you had her close to you in her last years. I would love to hear from you. Again, my prayers are with you.
