Sandra "Sandi" Kay Callaway, 54, of Jefferson Drive, in Palmyra, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 25, 2010, at her residence.

She was born December 4, 1955, in Moses Lake, Washington, a daughter of Robert B. Haldeman and the late Barbara Guest Haldeman.

Sandi loved helping people and was employed as a nurse with Martha Jefferson Hospital and Heritage Hall and was also a painter. She loved NASCAR, animals, especially hummingbirds and cardinals, and planting flowers in the spring.

In addition to her father, Robert B. Haldeman and his wife, Kathy, of Haymarket, she is survived by her husband and soul-mate, George C. Callaway VI; a daughter, Staci M. Groot Morris and her husband, Don, and his son, Tyler, of Palmyra; two sons, Jared M. Groot and Gregory C. Callaway, both of Charlottesville; a brother, David B. Haldeman and his wife, Deb, of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters, Kathy L. Slayton and her husband, Kelly, of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Karen A. Haldeman-Clark and her husband, Wes, of Fairfax; two grandchildren that lit up her life, Hali and Zachary Morris; five aunts and one uncle, Joyce, Leon, Maxine, Barry, Susie and Mildred; seven nieces and nephews, Brynna, Alyssa, Cheyanne, Shannon, Jory, Jamie and Jake; a number of cousins; many special friends, including Chris Clarke, Terry Herndon, Maria and Marshall Armentroute; and her best friend of 40 years, Shannon Haney.

A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the HOPE Center at Martha Jefferson and the Jefferson Good Neighbor Pharmacy in Palmyra.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the National Lung Cancer Partnership, 222 N. Midvale Blvd, Suite 6, Madison, WI 53705.

Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, in Scottsville, is handling the arrangements.
