Shirley Matthews Bishop Bingaman

Shirley Matthews Bishop Bingaman, 74, of Jefferson Street, Orange, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at her residence.

Born October 15, 1935, in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Shelby Matthews and Ruby Lloyd Matthews Power.

Mrs. Bingaman was a retired financial officer of the Surburban Trust Co. and a member of the Orange Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Bingaman; a daughter, Theresa Bishop Schettini; a brother, Randolph Matthews; and her step-father, Garnett Power.

Mrs. Bingaman is survived by a son, Henry "Hank" Bishop and his wife, Carole, of Sunnyvale, California; four grandchildren, Henry Bishop Jr., Kimberly Bishop, Christina Bishop, all of Sunnyvale, California, and Joseph Schettini of Charlottesville; and son-in-law, Eugene Schettini of Charlottesville.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Graham Cemetery, Orange, conducted by Don Hughes.

The family will receive friends after the graveside service at the Orange Baptist Church Pine Room.

Preddy Funeral Home, Orange, is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley and I worked together at Suburban Trust Co. When she
married George I was Matron of Honor at the wedding. After her move to Orange, we kept in touch through letters and more recently through
e-mail. She was a good friend. I will miss her.
