To The Tate Family,

The Scott Family sends their condolences and want to be sure to say that your beloved Mr. Tate made a difference in this difficult world. His desire to be in service to our youth meant he was in service to the community and an integral part of the Esmont Community.

Mr. Tate was someone that my youngest son found as a support and role model. Mr. Tate had several difficult decisions in a school that continually faced strife of one nature or another and he remained a strong, visible and interactive Principal. We appreciated the sacrifices he made in his life to give our children and families the support they needed during his tour of leadership in our community. His down to earth common sense approach when dealing with challenging situations is just one of the many things I will remember about Principal Tate.

We know you will miss him terribly and this time is so sad for you all. I know this sadness is overwhelming, but, we truly believe he would want you to remember all the good he did as he walked this earth. Ofcourse we all have somethings we could have managed better in our lives as we live on this earth, but his good so out weighed any thing managed unwell. He loved you all so.

We see that God saw fit to bring him home to a place where he could find comfort , peace, rest and everlasting joy, a place free of all heartache and pain. Our Father said he had a mansion with many rooms and he went before us to prepare a place for us. We know our heavenly Father has a room in that mansion for Mr. Tate.
God Speed and comfort to you all.

Scott Family, Esmont, Va.

We are so saddened by the passing of Mack - he truly was a person who made everyone feel as if they were valued and appreciated. He never failed to inspire us to do our best and be thankful for the skills we have, and to always remember to reach out for further education. We will miss his kindness, his humor, and the warmth we left with, each time we saw him. Our prayers are with Mrs. Tate and Heather and her family.

I am so sorry to get news of Mack's passing. I worked with Mack at Yancey elementary school as a TA for several years and a teacher for a short time. Mr. Tate hired me for my first job as music teacher at Yancey Elementary. He was a great boss and I think I talked him into being Santa in a music performance or two! I will miss him and 18 years later, I still appreciate all the things I learned from him when I was just starting out.
God bless your family.

Mack Tate was one-of-a-kind! As principal, he knew that a team approach and reaching into the community were essential for a child’s success. He was dogged in his determination to help children learn. He could make things that needed to happen, happen. He created a unique position, parent resource specialist. I was lucky enough to work in this role with him at Yancey. His legacy lives on. This position was a model for later family support roles. Mack had a larger than life personality! Perhaps on ‘rare’ occasions he was a bit controversial; however, he always had open arms and an open home for everyone. He embraced the world in his own unique manner. I will miss him.

Mr. Tate was principal at Yancey when I went there. He just might be one of the principals I've had. I think I know this because I always got called up to the office. He was a very great person and he will be missed. You are all in my thoughts.

On behalf of everyone at PVCC I extend my condolences. Mack has been a great supporter of PVCC over the years and I will always be grateful for his distinguished service on the PVCC Educational Foundation Board. How appropriate that the family requests that donations go to the scholarship that he created. I will cherish my memories of Mack and the good times we had together professionally and as friends.---Frank Friedman,President PVCC

Mr. Mack Tate was a wonderful teacher who inspired me in so many ways. From my days at Burley Middle School in the early 80s, he has remained one of my very favorite teachers ever. None of us will ever forget the infamous beach field trip on which we probably started him on some of those gray hairs! I am blessed to have had the chance to know his wife and daughter, and can see from the pictures he sent how proud he was of his granddaughters. I cannot be in Charlottesville for the services, but you are all in my thoughts. I am so lucky to have known Mr. Mack Tate!

June and Heather: I was so sorry to hear of Mack's death. I remember our days growing up together at Hinton Avenue and he was always such a wonderful, caring and lovable guy. He introduced Sam and I and I always said he was responsible for our marriage which lasted over thirty-five years until Sam's death in 2007. Now I know Mack is in heaven with Sam and all their friends and they're looking down on us telling us to be happy for them as they are no longer suffering. May his memory always remain with us and his love for life will go on in the hearts of all the many lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at the passing of a wonderful friend.

Mack was a friend, a colleague, and a mentor. He was loyal to his family, his profession, and UVA athletics. Mack always told it like it was, but he often added a humorous spin to make one leave optimistically, always thinking that it would get better. His MANDT training sessions are legendary. I will miss him. May eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
