Walter Fitzgerald Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Nov. 17 to Nov. 18, 2009.
Walter M. Fitzgerald Walter M. "Mac" Fitzgerald, son the late of Walter G. and Elenora Fitzgerald Rogers, went to be with his eternal father on Sunday, November 15, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Vernon H. Rogers. Mac was born August 27, 1926, in Montebello, Virginia. His family then moved to various locations in Covesville, Crozet and Yancey Mills. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy aboard the United States Ship Prentiss. After coming home, he married the love of his life, Doris McCauley Fitzgerald, wife of 62 years and has three daughters, Gail and her husband, Jeff Taylor, of Lynchburg, Marilyn and her husband, Larry Burruss, of Ivy, and Teresa and her husband, Joe Pirkey, of Crozet; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He retired as a car salesman from R.M. Davis Motors after 41 years. This allowed him more time to work on his farm that he loved, caring for his short-horn cattle in Greenwood, Virginia. He loved his church, Hillsboro Baptist, where he served as deacon until his health prevented him from attending Sunday services. He was a member of VFW Post 8436. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Andy Macfarlan and Dr. Robert Pritchard for their care during Mac's illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or your favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Yancey Mills. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Hillsboro Baptist Cemetery with Dr. Alan Thompson and the Reverend Justin Baldwin officiating. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
