Franklin Rothy Gibson Franklin Rothy Gibson, 89, of Charlottesville, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011.

He was born on March 30, 1922, to the late Matthew and Carrie Woodson Gibson. Also preceding him in death were his nine siblings.

Franklin served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant for 12 years, during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He worked for many years as a meat cutter for Estes Market, and later for Kroger. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eula Jane Gibson; and their children, Gail Fisher and her husband, David, Ingrid Payne, and Jeannette Lawrence and her companion, Dennis Showalter; along with three grandchildren, Cheri Payne, Jason Payne and his wife, Yvonne, and Tina Lawrence and her companion, Chris Smith; and four great-grandchildren.

His family extends special thanks to the 6th floor staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital, the Laurels and Charlottesville Family Medicine.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Riverview Cemetery with Mr. Roger Browning officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
