Elmer Wieboldt Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Feb. 27 to Mar. 3, 2013.
Elmer Frederick Wieboldt Jr. Elmer Frederick "Bud" Wieboldt Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the age of 92. Bud will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, having a strong sense of civic responsibility, and his business skills. He was a devoted husband and father. He was born on February 21, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elmer Frederick Wieboldt and Helen Dorothy Bersbach Wieboldt and raised in Glencoe, Illinois. He attended the Los Alamos Ranch School in New Mexico, during high school where he developed his love of wide open spaces. Bud particularly enjoyed hiking, camping, trail building, and trips to remote scenic regions. He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, Bud married Mary Ann "Murr" Jones of Highland Park, Illinois, on December 8, 1945. They settled in Virginia where he bred champion Aberdeen Angus cattle at Cove Creek Farm in North Garden. Other business ventures at Cove Creek Industries included greenhouses, a pressure-treated lumber plant and a later partnership with Barnes Lumber Company. During their retirement years, Bud and Murr traveled widely and enjoyed many international experiences. Bud was active in founding the Cove Garden Ruritan Club and looked for ways to enrich the Covesville/North Garden community including establishing a volunteer Fire Department and donating land for local baseball fields. Bud and Murr raised a family of five children, Carolyn Wieboldt Anderson and fiance, Richard McGrain, of Charlottesville, Thomas Frederick Wieboldt and wife, Ali, of Newport, Virginia, Cynthia Wieboldt Taylor and partner, Aaron Yakim, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Richard Claburn Wieboldt of Verona, Wisconsin; and Catherine Wieboldt Kendrick and husband, George, of Yarmouth, Maine. Bud was also proud to have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother. Bud's family meant the world to him. He was dearly loved and we will miss that twinkle in his eye. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace, 751 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia. Overflow parking next door at Church of the Incarnation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
