Anthony Liscio Obituary

LISCIO, Anthony "Tony" Fred Anthony Fred Liscio (Tony) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18. Tony was born on July 2, 1940 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest son of Leonardantonio Liscio, who was born in Monteleone, Puglia Italy and Irene Dell'Aquila Liscio, who was born in Castellana Grotte, Puglia, Italy. His father arrived in America in 1899 and his mother in 1920. They preceded Tony in death along with his brothers, Leopoldo, Mike, Paul, John, Leonard, Rocky and sister Connie. Tony started his football career at Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, PA. under Coach Pete Demperio. He went to the University of Tulsa where he played college ball under Coaches Bobby and Glenn Dobbs. After his College years he was drafted in the third round by the World Champions Green Bay Packers and coached under Coach Vince Lombardi. He played on the 1963 Chicago All Star team and they defeated the Packers. At the end of training camp he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he played for nine years under Coach Tom Landry. Tony played in the Ice Bowl and Super Bowl V and VI. When he retired from football he worked for Hussmann and then Hill Phoenix. He volunteered and worked with the Retired NFL Players Assoc. Dallas Chapter to build homes for the needy. Tony is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annette Nail Liscio, son Tony II and wife Tricia Loughridge, Daughter Michele and husband Scott Patterson and son Michael Paul Liscio and wife Rhonda Milio. Tony loved to fish and hunt and spend time with his grandchildren. Samantha, Grant and Jack Liscio, Pamela and Kate Patterson, and Arabella and Juliana Liscio. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends who will miss his teasing and kindness. Tony's years of football contributed to his life ending disease of ALS. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to the ALS association or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Home Instead, Devante Hoskin, and Senior Helpers, Chester Pemberton, Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care, Kara Miller, and Lucretia Lara. Our difficult journey was made a lot easier with these individuals' loving care. Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lake Highlands on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00 am. Vince Scolaro

June 26, 2017

It wasn’t every 14-year-old boy whose paper route included a real-life Dallas Cowboy. When I’d stop by the Liscio home while out collecting along my route – these were the ’70s – and No. 72 would answer the door, I’d look up – way up – and say, “Good afternoon, Dallas Morning News …” I could count on the response: “Annette, paperboy…”

Good enough (I always imagined I’d interrupted a nap following morning practice).

Only recently have I come to appreciate more than Mr. Liscio’s NFL status and lineman size. In addition to his many achievements, there was devotion to family and the challenges he fought – on and off the field.

On behalf of the Scolaro family – former members of the LH community and St. Pat’s – RIP, and condolences, Annette, Tony II, Michele and Michael and extended family. Thinking of you all.

Growing up across the alleyway and being friends with Michael, I can still hear that greeting of "Is that Chad of Chad and Larry Felderhoff?" My sincere condolences to you all. Having lost my mother many years ago, I understand the heartbreak of losing a beloved parent. I have only great memories of Mr. Liscio and all of your family and his passing is a tremendous loss. The thoughts and prayers of myself and the whole Felderhoff family are with you.

To Annette, Tony II, Michael and Michele
The Collett family expresses our sincere condolences for the lost of your husband and Dad. Tony was a great friend to everyone at the University of Tulsa and was one of the greatest football players that ever came out of our school. He was fun to be around and I remember Bob Junko and I taking some classes with Tony in the Spring when he came back to TU in the off-season.. One class, Human Geography, was difficult in that you were required to learn all the locations and capitals of every country in the world. Of course no one knew Italy like Tony and Junk and I would get on him for showing off in class. The Lake Highlands community has benefited because of the Liscio family and Penne and I will always be there for all of you. I walk the LH trail frequently and ran into Tony and Chester and that is when I knew he was ill.
I hugged him, kissed him and told him I loved him. I thank God for arranging that meeting. We have been lucky to know Tony and Annette Liscio and I look forward to seeing Tony again. God Bless all of you. Gary & Penne Collett

Our dear family friend has passed. Tony and my dad could be found in the Fall every Friday night at the Lake Highlands football games. (We are pretty sure we just heard cheering.) They also played a mean game of Gin Rummy. (We are pretty sure we just heard cards shuffling.) You will be sorely missed, Tony.
