George Fix Obituary
FIX, GEORGE JOSEPH George Joseph Fix died on April 21, 2007, at age 95, at Presbyterian Village North. He was born in Buffalo, New York, and lived most of his life in Dallas. He graduated from Texas A&M University, where he received a bachelor's and a master's degree in mechanical engineering. He was elected to the Tau Beta Pi, an honorary engineering fraternity and was president of his class in 1932. He remained a lifelong member of the Texas A&M Association of Former Students. After graduation, he joined his father in the George J. Fix Company, a distributor of power equipment, and he later became president of the company. When the Fix Company merged into Burgess Industries in the early1970s, he became president of the Burgess Power Equipment division. He served in World War II as Lt. Colonel in the Army Air Corps, working as project officer on bombs and related weapons, and flying in the aerial bombing missions in both Europe and Asia, for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Air Medal. In 1952, as consultant to the Secretary of Defense, he served in Europe in the U. S. Division of NATO. He was president of the Rotary Club of Dallas in 1957-58, the year in which the club was host to the International Rotary Convention, and he was a member of the Dallas County Club. In the early 1980s he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, and served for four years as chairman of the board. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro. A dedicated amateur horticulturist, he was a member of the American Begonia Society and of the Dallas Civic Garden Society. He was also a member of the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and participated enthusiastically in the church's Men's Breakfast Club, where he was known as "the resident philosopher from Texas A&M." Preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances and his son George Joseph Fix, III, he is survived by his daughter Nancy Fix Anderson and her husband Cliff Anderson, his daughter Barbara Ann Fix, his daughter-in-law Laurie Fix, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother James E. Fix and wife Barbara, and by Mozelle Parramore, who gave such loving care to him and his family for so many years.
