I continue to keep Carrie, Michael Duke and John's entire family in my prayers. I met John over 20 years ago and have so many great memories. I happened to be at the same restaurant where Carrie and John were on one of their first dates and when they walked away I knew that they would be married-I had never seen John look so happy and at ease. I truly believe that they were meant to find one another. I only wish that they had more time together.
John was one of a kind and will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

John was a wonderful person and great friend! My heart goes out to the love of his life, Carrie, their beautiful son, Michael Duke and the entire Gosslee family. I had the pleasure of knowing John for over 23 years and will never forget the fun times we had together nor the true friendship I had with him. From Cowboy games, lake outings, NAA trips to Vegas, Mexico trips, to just catching up over the phone, John always treated me (and everyone else) so special. I can honestly say that I'm a better person just having known him! I was so happy to see John find the love of his life with Carrie. He was truly the happiest I've ever seen him during the years since they met!
John, you will be missed dearly. But, I do know that you are now in Heaven catching up with Duke and our friend Stacy! Entertaining everyone, I'm sure. Can't wait until we meet again!

I have kept up with John through my son, Kelly Hampton, and just want the Gosslee family to know how truly precious John was to our family. Always welcome in my home with that big smile and exceptional manners! I remember Christmas after Christmas Kelly and John would leave for ski trips with a van load of guys. If they were not off there then it was to Duke's and the races! He is surely smilin' down on us from heaven as we each remember him in our own precious ways.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to just learn of John's death. His love of life and courageous battle with cancer represent the indomitable spirit by which we should all seek to live. I remember how much fun it was to coach him during his football playing days at LHHS, and of course, during the 1981 championship season. He could bring a unique sense of comic relief to just about any situation, and like so many others, I will always have fond memories of him. My heartfelt condolences to all of John's family and friends who are missing him so much right now. May we all find peace and comfort in the sure and certain hope that we will be reunited with him some day, and who knows, maybe we can have a rematch with Houston Yates in the Heavenly Kingdom Flag Football Super Bowl - we all know who will win, don't we?

John was one of the good guys. He treated everyone with respect and always had a kind word. I am not sure if I ever saw him frown. Just an all around wonderful person. He was taken from us way too soon, but I am happy to know that he is no longer in pain. We will all miss him and my heart goes out to his wife, Carrie, and his son, Michael Duke. The world was a better place because of John. He will live on in our hearts and memories always. See you on the other side, my friend.

John was that person you always wanted to be with you- on your team- in your foxhole. While we were roommates it was hunting and fishing trips, watching The Hogs, floating the Guadalupe, road trips to see The Duke, playing golf, Colorado ski trips, running Greenville Ave, or just a late night game of pool at The Never A Last Call Bar & Grill. It was always going to be an adventure. Later when we lived in different cities the phone calls could last for hours. They always started with me: Da Boz! and he would reply: What's kickin' chicken?
The tears I shed now are because I won't see you again on this earth but I know how strong your faith is, so I am happy for you and your eternal life and I am confident we will see each other again.
I will miss your laugh. I will miss your energy. I will miss your adventurous spirit and your contagious love of life.
Thank you for always having my back. Thank you for teaching me about patience and forgiveness- I bet you didn't know you were doing that? Thank you for introducing me to Wendy - today is our sixteenth anniversary, John.
You have been and always will be a special part of my life. Peace be with you my friend and my brother.

I knew John for over 20 years (through my brother Steve) and we have shared several occasions on the golf course and at Razorback football games. You could not find a better human being with such a big heart. Indeed, he always found the best in every person AND every situation. I will miss him deeply and look forward to the day when we meet again. I love you Gozz!!

I am very sorry to hear about John's passing. Many have mentioned his smile and the way he brought life to a room. But, John could absolutely crush a golf ball! I will fondly remember many rounds of golf in association tourneys and reading his name on the Long Drive contest sign. I am praying for John's family and thankfult that he is with his Lord.

John's smile could light up a room when he walked in... I loved that sweet smile. There are so many things I will miss about John....he was kind, thoughtful, sincere, genuine, funny, had the brightest blue eyes....the list could go on & on. I will never forget our last conversation when he told me "one of my main prayers is what I can do for Him"...he had the strongest faith & the most positive attitude. As we hung up, he told me "good luck to your son"...another example of always thinking of others & putting you first. I will cherish those memories we had in HS & later @ our high school get-togethers. In the short 48 years he was here on earth, he touched so many lives in such a positive way. Heaven must surely be more beautiful w/ him in it. John....I love you & will miss you, sweet friend. Carrie, Michael Duke & family... May God wrap His arms around all of you & give you strength, peace & comfort. God Bless.

John's determination will forever be a reminder to me every time my phone rings and someone leaves a message. He always left me messages and never stopped calling when I didn't always return his calls. He preferred conversation to text and sincerely wanted to visit. His gift to me was the example of staying connected: pick up the phone and talk with those we care about because they matter! Sweet smile...always sweet words...sweet man...sweet spirit! With much admiration...

The earth will never be the same for those of us who knew and loved you but we will always honor and cherish the time and memories we had because we were blessed to love & know you. We will always smile when we remember you and how much joy you brought to everyone you met, how important your family and friends were to you. I am grateful for all of the wonderful memories i have within me for knowing you and grateful to have called you friend. I am praying daily for Carrie, Michael Duke & the Gosslee family as we all grieve the loss of this wonderful man who was so full of life and joy every single day and lived life to the fullest. I am filled with so many wonderful memories which i will cherish and hold close for the rest of my life. John, your spirit is all around and I know you are in heaven rejoicing with Duke. You are pain free and living an eternal life with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. He must have needed you more than we did here on earth. You will live on in so many of us left behind and we will be sure to be here to support Carrie, Michael Duke and your family, even though your spirit and eternal love will cover them all of their days on this earth. My mom, brothers and most of all Joey have sent their prayers and we will miss you so much. I will never forget all of the wonderful things you taught me about how to have fun in life and to not take myself so seriously. This poem is what i gave my mother when my grandmother passed and it has even more meaning now that you have joined the choir of angels in heaven. God Bless you John Gosslee and rest in his loving hands. You are making heaven laugh and feel more joy now that you are among them.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

John had the warm and hearty spirit and soul exemplary of the Gosslee - Lyons Family. The Daileys have wonderful recollections of Christmases at Duke's, and we are certain his Duke and our mother are very busy showing John off as they did nearly 5 decades ago. John - you are, and forever will be, sorely missed.
