Scott Uhrig Obituary

Uhrig, Scott Vernon Born 11/26/61 in Houston, TX to Allan Jackson Uhrig and Barbara Hallie Austin, became one of God's angels on March 10, 2013. A talented professional musician he attended the High School for the Performing Arts in Houston. He went on to receive his BA from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, his MA from Yale University and studied at the Schiphol Conservatory in Amsterdam, Holland. A current member of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, music was his lifelong passion. This was matched only by his joy at becoming an uncle 10 years ago. He found so much happiness in this new role as best buddy to his nephew Ryan. He is survived by sister, Robin McBride her husband, Shawn; nephews, Ryan and Dalton; cousin, Oran Meecham; grandmother, Vivian Austin. Scott was a lifelong animal lover and did so much to rescue those in need. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to KittiCo Rescue, PO Box 600447, Dallas, TX 75360-0447 or kittico.org. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:30pm at Restland Memorial Chapel with reception following service.

I am just now hearing of Scott's all-too-soon passing, from his good friend, Nicki Scales (I just did a recording project w. Nicki in Amarillo). I was Scott's jazz instructor at Houston H. S. for Perf./Visual Arts. I especially recall his senior year, when he was a prominent and valuable member of both our top student big band and student combo. I last saw him at the Int. Soc. of Bassists convention in Houston (where I still live, though retired from 'PVA), late '90s. We had a great, lengthy conversation. I really regret that our paths did not cross again.

Scott's generosity and compassion will be greatly missed. He dedicated his life to two of the most important factors of my life music and the rescue of animals. I am so appreciative of his sharing his musical expertise with my son and it is my honor to donate to both "Kittico" and "Operation Kindness" in his memory. He will be greatly missed but I am so much a better person to have met him. Respectfully, his letter carrier Sheila Herrmann

Dear Robin and family,
We are saddened to hear of Scott's passing this week. I will never forget his gentleness and caring. I remember he would visit us in Friendswood back in 1980s and would play with Mary and Jennifer while I cooked dinner. I have pictures of him at St Barnadas during a music session.
Our sincere sympathy to you and all the family. Love, Wanda and Carlos Pereira and Mary, Jennifer and Marissa (Spiker)

Scott and I joined the Utah Festival Opera orchestra at the same time, and were roommates for several years. Scott was one of the kinder and gentlest spirits I've met, always supportive. Happiness came easily to Scott and anyone around him. I, and everyone in the orchestra, will miss him very much.
