Andrew Strouth Obituary


News Death Notice

STROUTH, Jr., Andrew Was born in Moorseburg, Tennessee to to Andrew Fletcher Strouth and Ida Taylor (Strouth) on Aug. 16, 1919. He died at home of natural causes on Sept 1, 2008. Andy was predeceased by his parents and all seven siblings: Clyde, Fred, Flake, Polly, Jim, Titus, and Bascom. He attended school through the 10th grade, then volunteered for the Army during WWII and spent time in Europe. After the war, he met and married Hilda Jewell Jones. They were divorced in the 1970s. He is survived by his only child, Barbara Gail Russell (nee Strouth), a few cousins, several nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors. Andy, Jewell, and Barbara moved to California in the 50s. His major career was with Rocketdyne and North American Aviation, where he worked on many of the first American rockets to go into outerspace. He was better known for singing and playing guitar, for the TLC he gave to family members, and for maintaining a beautiful lawn. Graveside services were held on Sept 13. Family requests no flowers. A donation may be made to your local VFW or to the charity of your choice. He was a good man, father, and neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him. Arrangements in care of Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel).
