I lived across the street from Mr. Benoit as a child in Dayton, OH. He was always very outgoing and usually working outside on his home while I would be out there shooting hoops in my dad's driveway. He and his family were always super nice to me and very kind. I am sorry for your loss.

My inspiration for playing and being a fan of Ice Hockey. Moe who played for the Dayton Gems lived across the road from our farm in Trotwood back in the 1960's. He was not only my favorite Gems player but someone I knew and I got to know his family including his sons as well. I was motivated to play the game myself and did well at it because of him. I played for 14 years.

But I will never forget when in 4th grade I was hospitalized with Rheumatic Fever, Moe sent me a signed hockey stick, puck and a couple of his pictures! I chatted with him that day over the old dial up phone!

RIP Moe! One my greatest childhood memories!

Dear Family of Moe, As I am sitting at the Hara Arena, Section 29 for my daughter's Silver Stick Hockey Tournament, I was looking up information about the hockey greats with the banners hanging in the arena. I was saddened to read about Moe's passing. May you find peace and solace at this time.

Mrs. Benoit & family -- I'm very sad to hear the news about "Moe." I have MANY fond memories of watching him & the "original" Dayton Gems play, both at Hara &, also, on a few road trips over the years. When I was much younger, my dad had an extra to a Gems' game & I decided to go with him. Watching the Gems & my first ice hockey game (& not on TV!) ... yes, I was hooked! For many years after that first game, we had season tickets & the memories of those great times back then are still fresh in mind. We lived in Preble Co. &, somehow, my dad found out where the Benoit family lived in Trotwood & we often took that route to Hara & at other times when we just might see "Moe" -- he was a rock star! As someone else has said, he had a great smile & he always played a clean game. I pray you will all find comfort in your memories of the happy times you shared together & in knowing he touched many lives & his "work" on the ice? Well, thanks for the memories, Moe!

As a kid, I loved watching Moe play for the Gems. When our son played hockey I would see him at Hara. I also had the pleasure to see him at my job.
Such a neat and friendly man.
You will be missed. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

So many great memories of Moe and the original Dayton Gems. His tough, hard-nosed, but always clean play made him a favorite and a role model to those of us in youth hockey. As an adult, I had several occasions to see him at Good Sam, concentrating on his work, but never too busy to have a pleasant chat with a former fan. My condolences to the Benoit family.
