Howard E. Newcomb

Age 84, of Hockessin DE, died peacefully, Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Christiana Hospital. He was the husband of Ethel H. Newcomb with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Rochester NY, on 4 Aug. 1926, he was a son of the late Cortland and Marguerite Claus Newcomb.

Howard was 1949 graduate of Cornell University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering.

He worked for DuPont Company retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. In recent years he worked for HR Block Company in Pike Creek DE.

He was a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and a member of the building committee. He loved working in the yard, was an excellent dancer, an avid skier and enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake and in the Caribbean.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Howard will be dearly missed by his wife, one son, Darrell and his wife Karen Reidy Newcomb of Vienna, VA, 2 grandchildren, Christopher and Collin both of VA.

His is also survived by two brothers, David and his wife Anne of East Aurora, NY and Michael and his wife Carrol of Pittsford, NY, and one sister Nancy Wortman, and her husband Alvin of San Francisco, CA.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11 am Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
