Lan Charles H. Hable, 82 Of Landenberg, PA; a long time public school administrator Charles H. Hable, 82, died of pulmonary fibrosis at his home on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Chuck was born and raised in Columbia, PA and attended Columbia High School, where he was elected class president all 4 years. He received degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Pennsylvania. At PSU, he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Chuck began his career as a teacher at the former Collingdale High School and became the Principal of that school in 1959. In 1964, he became the first Principal of the Valley Forge Junior High School. He became the Principal of Great Valley High School in 1966, and ended his career as the Assistant Superintendent of the Springfield School District, retiring in 1993 after 23 years of dedicated service. Chuck was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Nur Shrine of Delaware. He was a Past Commodore of the Nur Shrine Yacht Club. Chuck enjoyed vacationing with friends and family in Hilton Head, SC, where he spent many happy hours playing mediocre golf and was once chased by an alligator. He loved to putter around in his yard followed by his beloved pets. His dog, Maggie, was by his side as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, where he was met by his Rotties, Maxine and Shelby. Many wonderful hours were spent with friends and family on the deck and in the pool. Chuck was a POP POP Extraordinaire, deeply cherished by his grandchildren Brian, Eric and Courtney. Survivors: His beloved wife Nancy (Kassebohm); daughters Kristin and Michelle Buchholz; son Dr. Charles P. Hable, VMD (Brenda); grandchildren Brian, Eric and Courtney Barmes, Eric Hable and Heather Jackson (Stephen); great-grandson,Kailer; a great- granddaughter due in the Spring. Pre-deceased by his son Eric S. Hable. Visitation: Friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE on Monday, January 2nd 10 to 11 AM. Masonic Service and Life Celebration Service will begin at 11 AM. Mr. Hable was the principal of Collingdale High School when I was a student. He will always remain in my memory as the man who, because of no PA systems at that time, came into each class announcing that John F. Kennedy was shot.I was in my tenth grade science class at that time. I also had the privilege of working with him in the Springfield School District with the Springfield Education Council in the late 80's. Everyone called him Chuck at that time. I told him one evening at a meeting that no matter how old I got I could never call him Chuck - to me he would always be my principal and I was the student. He remains the memorable Mr Hable to me and even though I didn't see him often after he retired, he will definitely be missed. My prayers go out to his entire family.

Mr. Hable was an administrator at Collingdale HS when I was a student. He stood out as an
intelligent, kind and friendly man when he was dealing with staff or students. Educators like him inspired me to become a teacher. The world needs more people like him and he will be missed way beyond his immediate family and friends. Rest in Peace, Mr.Hable.
