Heather and I were classmates at HWS. I was not close with her but we were both athletes (on different teams) which was a small knit community. Heather was always smiling and happy. I can't imagine the grief that her family is feeling. I am so sorry. RIP Heather.

My dear friend Heather,
Today marks one whole week since you were
wrongfully taken from all who love you.
A week later, and I still sit so numb,
refusing to believe this really happened.
After knowing you for 6 years, and caring
for your precious children, I realize now
just how much I miss what I no longer have. In these last 6 years we shared so
many milestones watching our children grow up together. I already miss our
daily conversations about the kids, about life, and just everything in between. We promised each other we would always be friends, and our children would stay friends forever.
I plan to honor that promise to you my friend.
There is a saying: "Friends become our
chosen family".
Well you my friend, will always be part of my family..and our friendship will always live on.
I am so sorry Heather that I did not get to return your phone call in time.
We were going to make our plans for a summer outing with our children, and now
that will never happen.
I only hope you know how much your friendship meant to me, how blessed I was to know you, and that you will never be forgotten.
Our friendship lives on..........
love

I never knew Heather or her family. We could have passed each other on the street and I wouldn't have known her from any other stranger. But upon reading the news of her tragic death, I was shocked to the core. My heart aches for the loss her husband, children and family must feel. I have never been more affected by something so horrific as I was in hearing about Heather's passing. I pray to God, to grant this family peace. I pray for the students whose lives would have been changed if Heather was still with us. As a mother, I pray for a little more patience every day, and remember a little easier that each day is a treasure and you do not know when your last will be. I hold my kids a little closer, hug them a little tighter, listen to them a little longer. I am so very sorry. Sorry. It seems like such a small word, to cover such a huge feeling. My heart is just so heavy with sadness for the family. I know she will forever be watching over all of you. I wish you all peace and comfort during this incredibly difficult time.

Heather taught my kids how to swim some 20 yrs ago when she volunteered at the summer youth program in her hometown of Dansville, and, at that time I worked in the Guidance Office and had the privilege of seeing her daily throughout her three years of high school. Her bubbly, enthusiastic and always uplifting spirit graced the halls of that school and all who knew her. We just loved her! Though I haven't seen her in years, I can see by the heart warming comments left here in this guestbook by family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her throughout her life, that she loved life and everyone knew it! My heart aches for you Eric, and your children who were wrongly denied the life long love of their mother and wife. It aches for her family as they relfect back on all the cherished moments through the years with her. I'm so deeply saddened that she this senseless tragedy has left an undescribable void in the hearts of so many. She accomplished so much in her time and will forever be remembered with her radiant smile. These days are dark and sad for you in the midst of your grief, but I wish for the saddness to be replaced with a smile and a warming in your heart as you remember her. My deepest condolences to all of you.

Mrs. Boyum was my 10th grade biology teacher when I was in high school. I went into nursing because of the interest in biology that she sparked in me, and she made class a place that we looked forward to going. She was passionate about everything that she did and it was so evident. She truly cared about students and other teachers and there was always a happy, positive energy coming from her that instantly spread. This was such a senseless and horrible tragedy. The world is now missing one truly amazing and loving woman who meant so unspeakably much to so many people. She will forever be loved and sorely missed, and she will never be forgotten.

Dear family of Heather,
Our very sincere sympathy to the family in your loss of a wonderful person, a mother, wife, in-law, friend, teacher. Many people, especially children will never know of her skill as a teacher and person in reaching children in school but we trust she will send her blessings to them from above for years to come. As a retired school Administrator, I can also appreciate the loss of a teacher when they leave us but we believe her memory will go on and may the family heal in the passing of this good person for eternity. As the Head Coach of the William Smith Swimming & Diving team, Heather was my first diving recruit. She was one of the best divers in the history of William Smith College. She was a Conference and State Champion and qualified to compete at the prestigious NCAA Championship Meet. Heather was the type of athlete that every coach dreams about. Heather was a fierce competitor and had an amazing work ethic. She always did her best when the pressure was on and the team needed her.
After graduation and graduate school, Heather moved back in the Rochester area. I was fortunate and blessed that she accepted my offer to become the Head Diving Coach at William Smith. She absolutely loved teaching and coaching. Watching her coach was magical...I'm convinced she was born to teach...she was exceptional. In the words of one of her former divers, Rebecca Stevens, "Heather brought so much joy to our lives. My diving career wouldn't have been the same without her". Heather turned the William Smith diving team into one of the best in the State of New York. Everything she touched turned to gold. Heather resigned from coaching right before Frazer was born. She loved coaching, but wanted to spend as much time as she could raising a family.
I just recently received an email from Heather after she completed the big Musselman triathlon in Geneva. She wrote..."Hey Kelly!! I rocked the swim in true Heron fashion! 2nd woman out of water-33:46 for a 1.2 mile! The Musselman was awesome-Jeff puts on an amazing race! Heather". I wrote back, and now looking back on it, thankfully ended my email saying "you're the best!"
We lost one of the great ones on Sunday. Heather was a beautiful person inside and out. She lived life to the fullest and set an amazing example for all of us to follow. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, husband Eric and children Frazer and Paige. She was my former student-athlete, colleague and friend...I loved her and will miss her, but know her spirit will always be with us.

As the parent of one of Heather's students this past year, I want to express my deepest condolences. Heather was not only a teacher, she was an inspiration to my daughter Lauren. They often discussed much more than just Biology. They discussed her love of her family, her college experiences and her triathelon training. Heather truly taught by EXAMPLE, showing great strength, a passion for her family and career, as well as a zest for life. It was an honor that my daughter had such a positive influence in her life. May Heather's smile and spirit continue to live on in all those she touched.
