Bloomington, IN: Danny Presicci died at his Bloomington, Indiana residence October 4th, 2012. Born May 22, 1955 in Rochester, New York, he was the son of Emanuel W. and Connie J. (Sciarratta) Presicci.

He is survived by sister Sandra (Frank) Acito of Bloomington and twin brother Manny of Louisville, Colorado as well as nieces Michele (Jay) Newquist of Bloomington, Amy (Aamir) Malik of Summit, New Jersey, and nephew Andrew Acito of East Lansing, Michigan. He is also survived by grandnephews Alex and Jack Newquist and grandnieces Sophie and Lexie Malik who will especially miss his board game expertise.

Additional survivors include his uncles Joseph, Albert (Josephine), and Felix Sciarratta, his aunt Lena Presicci, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncle Ray Presicci, aunt Fay Gubiotti and cousin Wayne Sciarratta.

Danny graduated from Gates Chili High School in 1974 and the University of Rochester in 1978. He received his J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1981, and was admitted to the bar in both New York and Florida. He resided in Boca Raton, Florida much of his adult life where was employed by the United States Postal Service.

A Class A rated chess player, Danny competed in over 200 tournaments, where many friendships were forged. He also enjoyed creative writing and was a master at solving crosswords and answering trivia questions. Danny shared many adventures with his brother including seeing Niagara Falls by helicopter, exploring the beaches and towns around Chesapeake Bay, taking the Cog Railway to the top of Pike's Peak, and riding mules along the trails in Royal Gorge Park, Colorado.

His family gratefully acknowledges the years of excellent care Danny received at the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center under the direction of his extraordinary physician Dr. Rafat Abonour. I remember being a high school chess competitor against Danny and Manny, and then being classmates and chess team members with them at the University of Rochester. My condolences to Manny and the whole Presicci family over this great loss.

Though I was not a very close personal friend of Danny, I did learn much about his character and personality from our encounters over the chess board and our discussions following our games. Unlike most chessplayers, Danny realized that the true beauty of the game and the inner-satisfaction one received from playing it, is what truly mattered--and not the results. His quiet demeanor and soft-spoken words created a false facade; He needed to impress no one. After only several conversations, it was quite evident to me that Danny's intelligence level and astuteness of life's happenings could put most of us to shame. Those of us who were lucky enough to know Danny, and to listen attentively to his words, have indeed acquired a bit of his wisdom and wit. I don't know if Danny ever finished his novel, but I would love to read it.

Danny was a friend and co-captain of the GC chess team. It is good to hear that he continued his craft. I remember one of his favorite sayings - "No matter how much water you can soak up with a sponge you can still break an egg with a hammer". Meaning there are some absolutes in this life like the kind soul of Danny Presicci.

Manny was in my sixth grade class at Paul Road School in Chili. Danny was in the sixth grade class next door to ours. Manny came to my house one evening for dinner and a sleepover. We made some attempts at astronomical observation with my newly acquired telescope. The next day, I accompanied Manny to his house, where we found Danny curled up on a sofa with a trigonometry textbook. He explained that he had already taught himself algebra and geometry. He was extraordinary from an early age, and a genuinely good person. [email protected]

I speak for many when I say that the South Florida chess community will miss a competitive ,seemingly ubiquitous chess tournament player who could sometimes surprise and beat even the best of us ! Most we will miss the easygoing, witty comraderie Danny infected all of us with over the years ! Many times after losses you eased my pain with logic and friendly compassion ! You are already missed ! My condolences to all who knew him and shared fun times with him .

Danny was a great friend to play chess with. I remember the tournaments we would pile into Boris' van with Neil, Steve, & Danny on our way up to Orlando tournaments. Danny was very patient and made you feel comfortable when talking to him. Danny, you will be missed! Regards, John White

My condolences to Danny's family. Danny and Manny were classmates at GC and nearly single-handedly raised the GPAs of the entire class - no small feat considering some of us! Thanks for sharing Danny's story - a life greatly lived.

I was a classmate of both Danny and Manny for much of their time at Gates Chili. I remember Danny's kind spirit, quiet intellect and bad jokes. My condolences to all, especially Manny.
