hi pops, well another thanksgiving has gone by without you and nan. it just isn't the same. I remember all those thanksgiving dinners you and mom prepared all those years, sometimes just for us and sometimes having company join us. they were always fun. I hope both of you are happy in heaven. we have had a few friends join you, two legged and four legged. I bet sarge is all over both of you, especially you because you used to sneak him cookies all the time. the plaque with nan's and your pictures are on the front of your resting place. scottie and nancy have been changing your flowers frequently when we can't get there. you two were loved by a lot of people and still are. love, sis xxx

Dear Val and family,
Loved your recent entry here Val. A week does not pass when Patty and I don't speak of your grand parents Ray and Edna. As I continue to dry my saved sunflowers seeds for this spring planting, and am busy ordering my vegetable seeds for another summer of work and fun, I realize once again that the familiar white Caddy won't be stopping to chat and laugh and be friends. This spring when the peony blossoms burst open we won't be taking a bucket full to 300 Ingomar Drive to delight our dear friends there. I love the memories that come back each time I look at the old fire extinguisher and old carpenter's level Ray gave me years ago. Fond memories. Rest easy dear friends.

I am Mr. Newstead's daughter-in-law Karen's sister and was fortunate enough to know Mr. Newstead for many years. Whenever he was in Greece, New York in the summertime, he would stop by my house with lots of fresh vegetables that he would purchase at Green Acres and give to me. He was one of the kindest and most endearing men I ever had the pleasure to meet. I am so sorry to hear of his passing but know that he lived a long, wonderful life and now he is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior.

My sympathies to all the family. Remember, our memories help get us through times like these. Love and God bless, Sharon Lee Fernberg

Sending our condolences to Edna and all of the family. Ray was a great neighbor and mentor to our sons, as he taught them all about tools and yard projects, even when they weren't thrilled to learn! He once held up a tool and asked Trevor what it was. Trevor said that he didn't know, and Ray told him, "And if you stay in school, you'll never NEED to know!" I enjoyed chatting about antiques and old clocks with Ray. Thanks for all of the zucchinis! A good neighbor, and a good man. You will be missed.

Ray Newstead was my friend. He made my small hobby farm very special with his many visits. Things there just won't be the same anymore. I could write a book about this best friend. He was not the seasoned old-timer I always wanted as a friend, ……..he was twice that.
Ray was a dedicated family man. Always I would hear of his beloved Edna. They were married nearly 75 years. It was clear to me that she was deeply appreciated and loved. “Time for me to go and pick up Edna at Talbert's,” he'd yell to me in the back yard. And their kids, I got to know even though they did not know me.
It will take some time for me to stop watching my farm driveway for his familiar Cadillac to drive in with him at the wheel with that big smile on his face. “I just came from Green Acres and I'll swap you some peaches for sweet corn and tomatoes,” he'd say.
My sincere sympathy to Edna, Ray Jr. and Karen, Jim and Mary Lou, and Val, and all the grandkids. Your grandpa loved you dearly.
I treasure you Ray Newstead
Thanks for being part of my life
Rest easy old friend
