Marilyn Halliday Obituary

Feb. 11, 1928 ~ Jan. 18, 2012
Marilyn Macfarlane Halliday was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 11, 1928 to Grant and Lucie Gayle Macfarlane. She graduated from the University of Utah in Education. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. While at the 'U', a dashing young Beta Theta Pi, Max Halliday, took her on a blind date. They were married November 8, 1946, later solemnized in the Hawaii LDS Temple. Marilyn was active in the LDS church. She travelled extensively, loved tennis and bridge, and especially enjoyed lunch with her friends. She was a member of PEO and the Assistance League of San Diego. But of most importance, she was a faithful mother and wife devoted to following her husband wherever his career took them. She served as First Lady of the National Exchange Club in 1986. She was very active in the Marine Corps Officer Wives Clubs wherever they were stationed.
She is survived by her husband, Brig. Gen. Max G. Halliday, USMC (Retired), and her three children: Heidi Clark (Bob); Julie Evans (John); and Scott Halliday (Teresa). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren and three brothers: Grant Macfarlane Jr., James L. Macfarlane and J. Richard Macfarlane. Proceeded in death by her younger brother, John M. Macfarlane.
Services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 11:00 am (Viewing at 10:00 am) at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT. 84106. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn.

Dear Max,

I'm so sorry to hear about Marilyn. What an amazing lady she was! You 2 were such a cute couple. I sure enjoyed visiting with you and Marilyn when you would come to Marilyn's appointments at Dr. Hirsh's office. It was so much fun watching you 2 hold hands and interact as such a sweet couple who was still so much in love after 60 years of marriage. She will be missed, terribly, by all of us at Dr. Hirsh's office.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Max.

Dear MAX and FAMILY,

We are so saddened by the loss of our dear friend, Marilyn, who we
have known for over 35 years. She was like a sister to Ann who
together they enjoyed many fine movies and lunches. She was such
a beautiful lady who touched the hearts of many people.

We hope to continue our dear friendship with you, Max, because you
served her so well in the last two years especially. We have many
fond memories of our many wonderful dinners.

May God bless you and the rest of your family in this time of
sorrow. With our deepest sympathy, Ann & Walt Richter
