Carol Adams Obituary

Carol Thorson Adams, our loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on April 13th, 2017, surrounded by family. Carol was 89 years old.
Carol was born on May 25th, 1927 to Arthur J. and Flora A. Thorson. Carol resided in Salt Lake City for her entire life. Carol grew up in Salt Lake City on her father's farm where she learned the value of hard work.
Carol married her sweetheart, Preston G. ("Pres") Adams, on June 8th, 1950, in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. temple. Together they raised four children. Carol had a sweet relationship with her husband during their 65 years of marriage. Carol has deeply missed Pres since his passing two years ago.
Carol put herself through college graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in elementary education. Upon her graduation, she worked as a 3rd grade teacher which she did until the birth of her first child. Carol stopped teaching and devoted her life to her family and the raising and teaching of her children.
Carol was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including Primary teacher, Relief Society Presidency, Young Women's Presidency, and adult advisor to Lambda Delta Sigma at the University of Utah. She also spent two years with Pres on a mission at the Mormon Battalion Visitor's Center in San Diego.
Carol was greatly loved for her compassionate service in her responsibilities as a mother and in her church callings. She loved to play tennis, to go on walks, and be active. She also enjoyed accompanying Pres on the various work conventions that he was awarded due to his success in his career. In many ways, Carol was responsible for Pres's success.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pres, her daughter Susan, her two sisters Edith and Marge and their spouses, her twin brothers John and Arthur, and her brother Alvin.
Carol is survived by her daughter Linda (Douglas) DeVore, her daughter Sharon (Ron) Nelson, and her son Stephen (Heather) Adams. She leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Mom and Grandma, we will miss you.
Carol's funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24th at 12 noon at the St. Mary's 1st Ward Chapel, 1320 Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 23rd from 5-7 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City, UT, and from 10:30-11:30 at the Ward prior to the funeral service.

Carol was a sweet friend to everyone she met. The Calvin Clegg family loved Pres and Carol and their kind and friendly ways. Carol was a wonderful neighbor always remembering us with thoughtful notes and words. We are so sorry we were out of town and could not attend her funeral. We send our love and best to her dear family. She will be missed by so many. Love, Cal and Gayle Clegg

I remember your mother as such a sweet, beautiful woman. We travel and have not taken the paper in years. I was looking for a friends mother's obituary when I saw your mother's. I know she left you with many wonderful memories.

Dear Adams Cousins (Linda, Shar, and Steve),

We are surely saddened with Aunt Carol's passing. She was always so kind, loving, and fun to be with. When my mom, Marjorie, passed away back in 2004, Carol and Pres told our kids to call them Grandma Carol and Grandpa Pres. We all have wonderful memories with them both. Carol's mannerisms, speech, and smile reminded me so much of my own mother... they were so alike.

I would drop by Carol and Pres's home from time to time to say hello after visiting our dentist close by. I felt like I should visit her in March, even though her birthday was approaching in May. The last time I saw and spoke with her was on March 7. She was sitting up in the TV room, was alert, and remembered the names of all our family members. She was always so good at making everyone feel welcome and remembered. She spoke of each of you and your families. She is so proud of you all and loves all of you, your spouses, children and grandchildren. We talked about what a great legacy she has in her family.

She had strong faith, determination, and hope. I believe she has earned a wonderful reward and is so happy to be with your Dad again.

May you be comforted in your loss and find peace in the hope and joy of the Plan of Happiness through Jesus Christ. You will all see each other again.

We send our love and best wishes,
Brian and Susan Richardson and Family

To the Adams Family,

Our condolences to all your family. Your mother was always so beautiful with a sweet disposition. May you all find the peace you need to sustain you through the forthcoming days. Aren't we glad that we have the reassurance of eternal life.

Our families lived in the same ward growing up. Mom still lives there. We are thinking of all of you at this time.
