Gordon Harman Obituary

1928 ~ 2012
Gordon Edwin Harman passed away peacefully on February 21, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by family. Gordon was 83 years old and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Gordon was born to Edwin Howard Harman and Laura Margaret Trinko on April 18, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married JoAnn Sutton on May 23, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served his country in both World War II and the Korean War. He was the first reservist from Utah to enter the Korean War. He was in the banking industry more than 40 years, working at Continental Bank, then Zions Bank. Early in his marriage Gordon worked hard to support his family with part-time work in the Gem, Lyric and Capitol Theaters. He would give JoAnn a break by taking his kids to the movies with him where everyone would get to sit in the balcony all by themselves. It was a great treat. He took great pride in his gardening and lawn. He would spend hours manicuring his flower beds to perfection. It was said that a weed dared not show its head in his yard. He loved being at every family event where he was the photographer; taking pictures to record each event and making numerous scrapbooks. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and held various callings. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughters: Sherrie (Dennis) Shaw; Jackie (Randy) Jones; Pennie (Andy) Thompson; sons: Doug (Sonya), Shawn; brother Robert (Camille) Harman; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers Howard and Dick Harman. The family would like to thank the staff at Promise Hospital for the care they gave Gordon in his last days.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be held Monday, February 27, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal's and again Tuesday 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment, Larkin Cemetery.
