Alison Shawcroft Obituary

1960 ~ 2012
Alison Tuckett Shawcroft, our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully through the veil of mortality into the loving outstretched arms of her Heavenly Father on November 11, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Alison was born June 15, 1960. As the first of four daughters, she was the exemplary 'leadoff hitter" to her kind and loving parents, Glen and Jo Tuckett. Growing up in her charmed Provo neighborhood, she was surrounded and greatly influenced by friends, neighbors, and family of faith and integrity. Alison loved life and readily and easily made countless friends. At BYU, she met Gene, her eternal best friend. They were married and sealed on August 13, 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. Alison and Gene raised their four children in West Jordan among wonderful people. Beginning in July 2004, Alison spent three enjoyable years in Brazil where she and Gene presided over the Brazil Campinas Mission. Upon their return from Brazil, they settled in the Provo Edgemont area where she grew up.
Alison served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the youth of the church and served in many Primary and Young Women callings. Primary chorister was her favorite. For the last several months, she cherished serving in the Provo Temple working with the children waiting to be sealed to their parents. Her love for and testimony of the Savior and His Gospel guided her life. She leaves a legacy of faith, love, kindness, hard work, and determination. Alison lived the challenge she often left with her children, their friends, and her missionaries: be good, be wise, be wonderful.
Alison loved to knit, and gave away thousands of her knitted dish cloths to friends, missionary mothers, newlyweds, and anyone who seemed interested in her talent. Alison kept her hands busy knitting while riding in the car, while watching children's sporting events, or while sitting for more than a couple of minutes. While knitting the world was on hold until she reached a stopping point which was the end of a row. She now has reached, in a victorious way, the end of her earthly row.
She will be missed by everyone, including more than 400 missionaries who, for two years, had a loving second Mother. Her influence will be felt throughout the world for generations.
She is survived by her parents Glen and Jo Tuckett, husband Gene, sisters Shannon, St. George; Kendall, Arizona; Erin Mooring (Jeremy), St. George; children Cameron (Crystal), West Jordan; Lindsay, Salt Lake City; Russell (Lizzy), Provo; Nelson, Brazil Manaus Mission, and three energetic grandchildren Maliyah, Sawyer, and William.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgemont Stake Center, 303 West 3700 North Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday evening from 6 until 8 and at the stake center Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or to the Temple Patrons Assistance Fund.

I can´t believe another year has gone by. You truly were like a second mother to me. I had to have surgery in Brazil and spent time recovering in your home. You showed such kindness and care for me and I never felt like a burden or inconvenience though I´m sure I was. Whenever I meet up or talk with other missionaries I think of you and miss you. Thank you for blessing my life. I´m sure you´re a blessing to those on the other side of the veil as well. I´m excited for the time when we will meet again.

It´s been ten years and I think of you often. I miss your smile, your laugh, your kind sense of humor. You were a wonderful example of faith, happiness, and perseverance. Thank you for everything you did to bless my life and encourage me to continue down the covenant path. I know I am just one of hundreds, perhaps thousands who was blessed by your determination to live a Christlike life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I did not hear about this until today from the Sheppards and I'm gravely saddened by this news. I did not know Sister Shawcroft that much but I was a friend of her son, Nelson. During high school we would go to his house once a week and Sister Shawcroft would prepare us a delicious meal. Her generosity is priceless, she is a true example of Christ and I will personally miss seeing her bright smile.

We are all saddened by the passing of our beloved sister. Sister Shawcroft, I treasure our emails throughout our son Alex's mission, and could never thank you enough for taking such good care of our son. You sent Alex to the hospital when he had a severe allergic reaction to cat hair and saved his life. He has endless stories of your love and eternal vision. Since you are a mere veil's width away from us, know that we all strive to be more like you, and in so doing, more like our Savior. Our love and hearts are with your family, who remain on earth to carry on the work of the Lord and to exemplify your love. We love you, beloved Shawcroft and Tuckett families, and pray for you daily, especially Elder Shawcroft on his mission in Brasil. Eternal love, The Carter family, (Alex)

Sister Shawcroft, you know that I was not good at all about drinking water when I was on my mission. I remember when you said:" Sister Alencar, you need to drink more water. It will be good for you." and then I said: " but Sister Shawcroft, I dont like water. I like juice more." and then you smiled at me. Weeks later, we had zone conference, and I was leaving the chapel, I heard you calling my name "Sister Alencar, Sister Alencar, wait..." You were running, and I looked at your hands and you had a huge bottle of water. I started laughing, and you said: "Promise that you will drink it?" I did Sister Shawcroft. I drank the whole bottle, and guess what? Yesterday, I drank eight bottles of water. Isn't it pretty impressive? and I thought you would be happy and proud of me. I love you, and I think about you every day. You change my life in many different ways. I dont know how long will take for my heart to accept the idea that I have to wait unto I can give you a huge Brazilian hug again. Eu Te Amo, and always will.

Sister Shawcroft was also my mission mom. I will miss her dearly. She frequently took time to write personal letters with her perfect handwriting. When I sent a card to her years ago as she was going through treatment, the letter she sent back was so kind and loving and inspiring that I kept it in my scriptures for the past several years. I remember how she struggled with Portuguese so much, but she never gave up. I stil remember many things she taught us missionaries. She is a wonderful example of a follower of Christ.

Today, I said " Ate logo" to you Sister Alison Shawcroft. For 18 months of my life as a missionary in Campinas Brazil you were my friend, confident, nurse, doctor and spiritual mentor. More than that you were and will be forever the person that my heart choose as a mom. As I said before, I love you for many, many reasons, but the greatest reason is because you loved me first. So freely loved me first. I miss you, I love you and I will always love you. Eu Te Amo. My trip back to Rexburg today was full of memories of you. EU TE AMO.

Dear Shawcroft Family,
We are so very sorry to hear about Alison. Our hearts just break at your loss.
If we can give any words of consolation at this time it is to tell you that she is no longer suffering and nothing in this world can touch her. We know the heartache of watching someone so sweet and gentle suffer and what a bittersweet blessing it is when they are finally released to a loving Father in Heavens arms.
May you also find peace in His love and know the you truly will see her again and she will always be smiling down on you. Much love, Kev and Stacey Gray and Family

Our deepest sympathy goes to your family. We never met Sister Shawcroft but our son, MIchael Utley served as a missionary in Brazil and dearly loved Sister Shawcroft. We felt her love through him and through short emails that we received from her while Michael was serving in Brazil. We know that she was there to watch over our missionary. We thank her for her dedication as she served here on the earth.

Gene, Cameron, Lyndsey, Russell, Nelson and grandchildren. Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to you at this time of your sorrow. Many people come in and out of our lives and make an impression on us. Then every now and again the Lord sends people into our lives that change our lives forever. Alison was one that has changed our lives forever.
She always had a smile and words of encouragment for us, and she was more than willing to share her talents with you. Alison you forever changed Colleen's life when you taught her to knit dishcloths. Colleen also says, "just let me finish this row." I will always cherish my special relationship with you Lyndsey (1/2 of the Lyndsey twins) and you too Russell for all of the times when riding your bike home from the McMurdies you would stop in front of our house and talk to Sister Oviatt and myself. May God continue to bless you all through this time of your sorrow and throughout the rest of your lives until you are reunited with your loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and our special friend. Alison will always be close by to watch over your sweet family.

My heart aches today knowing that one of the most wonderful woman I know and a second mom to me went to join our Father in Heaven. Sister Shawcroft you will always be remembered as one of the most Christlike people I know. You will always be an example to me of how to live my life and treat others as Christ would.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to have served a mission and to have served under your guidance and care. I looked forward to our multi zone meetings to hear your testimony and the love you have for our Savior. I know our Savior lives and how grateful I am for the plan of salvation and the knowledge we have that families are together forever.
I pray that your family will be comforted through this time of loss. I love you and your family so very much and I am so sad that I am not able to come to the viewing or funeral as we are on our way to have our first baby tonight. I grew up with Alison starting in fifth grade at Edgemont Elementary School. As a new student at the school, one of my first memories of those first nervous days was of Alison Tuckett, who was friendly, kind, fun, and outgoing. She never changed, even through high school. Although I haven't seen much of Alison after college, my memories of her will always be of her kind nature.

I had the privilege of growing up in Shawcroft's stake and the serving with them in Brazil as one of their missionaries.

Alison Shawcroft was truly my "second mother" on my mission. She was always so nice and caring to all of us missionaries (whether that was baking us brownies or cookies, making sure we got medicine if we were sick, or making sure we had dry shoes).

She was definitely an elect lady and touched my life for good. Her testimony of the gospel and example will remain with me always.

My deepest sympathies to the Shawcroft family. Thank you for sharing her with us! May the Lord comfort you all during this difficult time.

Até logo Sister Shawcroft!

I got to serve with Alison in the Primary when she was the chorister. I will always remember when she taught the song "If the Savior Stood Beside Me". She told the children one time she was reading a book and came to a part where there was a swear word, and she decided right at that moment to stop reading the book. She has always been such a valiant and kind person. My heart goes out to all of you and we are praying for your family to have peace.
