As a high school senior, I saw "A Distant Thunder" for the first time and made the decision as a Christian to rededicate my life to Christ.
Since that time, I have had the opportunity to win many to Christ personally and have also sponsored showings of Mark IV films on many other occasions.
My work in television today and my decision to run for governor of Georgia in 2010 are ongoing results of the decision that I made that January day in 1986 when I saw "A Distant Thunder" for the first time.
I will forever be grateful for the selfless and tireless work that Mr. Doughten spent in order that millions of others, including one teenage boy in 1986, would give their lives to serving Christ.
God bless you, Mr. Doughten. I look forward to meeting you for the first time in glory!

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Doughten's passing. His film series was the definitive version of the tribulation period/end times movies. May he rest in peace, and know that his life was well-spent with his ministry. <3 Much love and endless respect from Denver, CO.

I remember seeing A Theif In The Night as a teenager and the Holy Spirit leading me to Christ. Thank you for obeying Gods call.

I just learned of Russell Doughten Jr's death. I just wanted to let you know what a blessing his films from A Thief in the night were, as I committed my life to Christ during the films in the 1980's He lived a great life and left a legacy that will never be forgottten. My deepest condolences and sympathy to friends and family, God bless you...

I never met Brother Doughten, but I was affected by his "Thief in the Night" films.
Those films caused me to study more diligently the end time events prophesied in the Word of God.
May God comfort and give strength to those he has left behind. Look to Christ so that you too may be accepted of Him at the end of your life's journey.

Having just learned of Russell's passing I'm grieved and thrilled. I performed in one of his films learning much and enjoying the experience immensely. A few years ago I stopped to purchase a copy for my mother who insisted she have her own copy. Russell happened to be "home," and I enjoyed a pleasant reminiscence with him. His talent, grace and gentle intensity always intrigued me signaling his spirit filled life and approach to his art and witness. I'm sorry his story ends here; I'm delighted that his story goes on at home. God's peace to the many who loved and respected him.

I have all ways had such great respect for Russ and Dr. Doughten's devotion to each other. Through the years working with Dr.Gertrude Doughten I heard a great many good things about Russ. I am so glad she was able to retire and spend time with him. God Bless.

Russ and Gertrude were a quiet encouragement to our young family in the pastorate there in Carlisle. Our grown daughters still treasure the dolls, etc. from them. He graciously taught me some important things about public speaking (in which he was well trained). More recently we would bump into Russ all over the country at Christian Retail conventions when I managed the bookstore at Faith Baptist Bible College for 13 years. Russ gave me a Bible and my ONLY camel fur hat from Israel. We never lacked for fruit at Christmas!

In 1965, when I was 7, I screen tested for one of his first movies, "The Hostage" made in DSM. A few years ago I drove past his office and got the notion of contacting him. He was very gracious to me. We talked for quite a long time. I'm glad I took the time.
