Kenneth Utterson Obituary

Kenneth Utterson

Ankeny

Kenneth Utterson, 77, passed away on March 15th, 2014 of Legionnaires disease. Ken was welcomed back to his heavenly home on this day. Those who knew and loved him were truly blessed to have met him.

Ken was born on June 28th, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to William and Dolores (Roth) Utterson. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High school. He followed his father's footsteps and went in to the meat cutting business. He managed both Super Value and Dahls meat departments. He married Ada Phelps on August 3rd, 1958. They had four children. In 1962 they moved to Ankeny, Iowa where they raised their family. After retiring, Ken and Ada were able to enjoy their winters in Estero, Florida.

Ken was a happy person and was able to spread this happiness to others through his kind and helpful spirit. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed his time with family and friends. He was a great father and taught his children well by the faith and values that he modeled throughout his life. He was a loving and giving husband who always treated Ada with kindness and respect. He will forever be missed. We will forever be grateful to have had Ken in our lives.

Ken is survived by Ada, his wife of 55 years, his children Ken (Myra) Utterson of Hillman, MN, Vickie (Glen) Frick of Ankeny, Iowa and Chad (Kim) Utterson of Parker, Co, four granddaughters: Aryn, Emilee, Aleah and Avery. He has 3 great grandchildren. Ken is also survived by his sister Nancy (Vern) Faber of Des Moines, IA. Ken will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Ken was preceded into death by his parents, his sister Charlene, and his son Doug, who passed away in 1992.

A memorial service was held in Estero, FL on March 18th with all his winter friends. He loved his time spent here and always looked forward to seeing these friends each winter.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 29th at Our Ladies Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny, Iowa. Visitation with family will be held an hour before the service.

Ken had a passion for helping those in need. In lieu of flowers please give a helping hand or donation to someone in need.

My Dear Ada, I just opened my email and read about the passing of your precious husband of so many years. I tried to phone you from CA where I have been since Nov. but the phone has been disconnected. This short message will have to do until I arrive back in Ankeny on May 1st. I send my sincere sympathy, prayers and love to you and your family. Blessings, Glenda Brady

Ada, we are so sorry to hear the news of Kenny's passing. When we truly become "one" the passing leaves us feeling like half of you is gone. The Lord will be there to fill your needs, lift your heart and fill in that place that right now feels so empty. Isn't it wonderful to KNOW that we are not alone, and that death isn't forever, heaven is forever and life is forever and Kenny waits just on the other side! The first thing I thought of was your son and how excited Kenny was when he could wrap his arms around him! Heaven is forever, the Lord has something for you here but fix your eyes on the Lord and the distance between heaven and hear will become much closer. We love you and are praying for this most difficult time and that you can feel God's love more than you ever thought possible! Love in Jesus Gwynne

This is such sad news to hear of Kenny's passing. Our hearts are full of great sorrow for the loss of this kind, gentle soul for which we will no longer have the joy of his presence here on earth. Kenny was a true man, the kind that God envisioned for all to be; one who loved and served his Lord Jesus, his family, his friends, and looked out for those in need of kindly help. Thank you Kenny and Ada for your friendship with my parents for so many years, your goodness to them has been a blessing to our family. We will dearly miss Kenny on earth, but oh the joy of his arrival in heaven, where we'll one day see him again! May God comfort all as we mourn and yet rejoice in the meaningful and significant life of Kenny Utterson.
