Erick Kyro Obituary
ERICK W. Age 100. January 25, 2017. Born March 28, 1916 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Beloved husband of the late Violet Kyro. Loving father of Ralph (Nancy) Kyro and Judith (Charles, deceased) Gates. Cherished grandfather of Michael (Lynette) Gates, Jeffrey (Allison) Kyro, Kimberly (Stephen) Bello, Stacy (Benjamin) Reaoch and great grandfather of 13. Erick served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot in New Guinea, the South Pacific. He flew 215 combat missions during his duty there. After WWII he returned to Detroit, MI and became part of the Air Force Reserve. His unit was recalled to Active Duty for the Korean War in 1951. Erick continued his military career as part of the Michigan Air National Guard for the next 20 years. He rose to the rank of Major General and State Commander for the Michigan Air National Guard; retiring in the early 1970's. He worked for Chrysler Corporation as a Systems & Procedures Analyst for 27 years; retiring in 1980. Erick was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Southfield. Funeral Saturday 11 a.m. at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, 33603 Grand River Ave. (1 Blk. W. of Farmington Rd.), Farmington with Visitation 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Finnish Center Association.

We always looked forward to seeing and visiting with Mr. Kyro here at the bank. He told us many great stories. What a great man and what a life he had. We will miss you Mr. Kyro.
