Virginia Meinhardt Obituary

Virginia Mae Meinhardt, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Edge Park United Methodist Church, 5616 Crowley Rd., Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edge Park Methodist Church, 5616 Crowley Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76134, or a charity of choice. Virginia was born June 14, 1923, in Roosevelt, Okla., to parents, Dauv and Minnie Stafford. The youngest of five, she had one brother and three sisters: Gerald, Doris, Bernadine and Jane. During World War II, Virginia worked in Washington, D.C. in support of the war effort. Then, back in Norman, Okla., at a USO dance, she met the love of her life, Walter "Mick" Meinhardt of St. Louis. They were married on June 17, 1945, and after his discharge from the Navy and a brief time in St. Louis, Mick and Virginia moved back to Norman, Okla., to attend Oklahoma University, now a family of three with the arrival of son, Michael Edward. While in school, they welcomed a daughter, Patricia Kaye, to the family. Upon his graduation, the family moved to Fort Worth to start a career at Convair/General Dynamics of Fort Worth. In 1959, the family welcomed another son, David Dwayne, and now the family was complete. Both Mick and Virginia were active in church and family life. They were charter members of Edge Park United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. She was a member of United Methodist Women, several women's circle groups, and Senior Ministries. She devoted her life to her church, husband, family and friends and was known by all for her sweet, gentle and caring spirit. Mick and Virginia were blessed with 54 happy years together enjoying their five grandchildren. Perhaps her greatest joy in her later years was seeing her six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Emeritus Assisted Living at Stonebridge Ranch of McKinney as well as the care team of Hospice Plus for their loving care. Survivors: Son, Michael and his wife, Susan Meinhardt, of Dallas; daughter, Pat and her husband, Jim Norton, of McKinney; son, David and his wife, Dawn Meinhardt, of Dallas. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Kristen and her husband, Mike Jones, and their children, Olivia and Zachary of McKinney, Kevin and his wife, Holly Norton, and their children, Lilly, Will and Caroline, of McKinney, and Morgan and her husband, Mike Neely, and their daughter, Charlie, of Denton, and Kyle and Kaycie Meinhardt of Dallas.
