Barbara Basham Obituary

Barbara Holland Basham, 66, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, at her home. Celebration of life: Come celebrate Barbara's life with the family at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lena Pope Marty Leonard Community Chapel, 3131 Sanquinet St., Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, her memory may be honored with a donation to the Bonnie Abigail Basham Education Fund, care of Frost National Bank, 6115 Camp Bowie Blvd., Suite 150, Fort Worth, Texas 76116. Barbara was special from the day she was born to excited new parents, Victor and Ouida Holland, on Jan. 5, 1945. She was the best "big sister" to Glenda and Vicki; the engaged and thoughtful educator at J.P. Elder School for 36 years; a "beloved" Mom to Allison Holland and Beau Holland Basham; the "proud" Mimi to Bonnie Abigail; the "best friend" to Celeste, Cheryl and Pam; the "favorite aunt" to Hillary, Matti and Olivia; the "devoted" daughter to Ouida and Victor; and a professional recruiter enjoying a record year with GR Morris and Associates. Above all else, Barbara saw the best in people and never hesitated to open her heart and home to someone in need. To a life well served, let the gates of heaven open and a joyous reunion begin. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Victor Lynnwood Holland. Survivors: Her mother, Ouida Holland; children, Allison and Beau Basham; granddaughter, Bonnie Abigail Basham; sisters, Glenda Appleby and husband, George, and Vicki Nichols and husband, Cory; nieces, Hillary LaRue and husband, John, Matti Archer Kruse and Olivia Nichols; and many dear friends.

Barbara was always "Ali's mom" to me. She shuttled me around town, picked me up from school a thousand times and always welcomed me into their home. She was always so kind to me. I am so sad for this loss. You guys are in my prayers.

Barbara was not only my 8th grade cosmetology teacher she was also my Co-Worker and Friend when I worked at J.P. Elder. She took me under her wing on my very first day at J.P. Elder even though I was very nervous about working with the same professionals that were previously my teachers. She got me involved with all the clubs that she sponsored like the cheerleaders, talent show committee, etc. We had a great time and the kids really enjoyed it. Whenever someone upset me at work she would talk to me in her calm voice and tell me not to let anyone bother the way I felt or ruin my day. This lady was complete LOVE and COMPASSION to everyone that crossed her path. Even though I haven't seen her in a few years, I know that I could call Barbara and she would be there for me. All my love and prayers go out to Allison, Beau and the Holland Family. Rest In Peace My Beautiful Friend.

Barbara Basham was the best of all things in a person. She saw needs of others above her own. For those of us who were fortunate to know and love her, she was the bright light of each day .

What we all learned from her was compassion. She dearly loved her family. Her Bonnie was the light of her life, I am so glad she got to know her if only for a little while.

Words become so inadequate when you try to speak of someone for whom words could not describe. She made my thirty years at Elder a wonderful experience because we laughed so much and I will always love the wonderful woman she was.

Bash, we will miss you more than you will ever know.
