I have known Jo Ann since we were 4 or 5 and spent many hours playing, spending the night, swimming, girl scouting, and riding our bicycles all over the east side of Fort Worth. After high school we lost touch but her mother Jennie, who was a volunteer at Harris Hospital for many years while I was employed there kept me updated on Jo Ann. I will always remember how much she wanted a horse and how excited she was the first time she went to visit her brother in Alaska because she would get to do two things she loved the most: see her brother Sammy and ride horses. I am very blessed to have had Jo Ann as my friend.

Joann was 14 when she traveled by her self to Alaska for the first time. How brave and courageous she was! There were no cell phones to call home on or other teenagers to hang with, just her brother, his wife and the wilderness adventures. She fit right in. Wonderful memories.
With that first trip to Alaska and each visit since, the goodbys were hard, but this one is the most difficult. We love you Joann

I didn't know Texans could be Sourdoughs, but Jo Ann certainly had a sourdough spirit. She loved Alaska. She came up in the summer of '65, the year I was born, and mom and dad took her on a fly in fishing trip. I think that sealed the deal and from then on she had the dream of going "North to Alaska" like her brother Sam had done. Thankfully we were able to spend some time with her the last couple summers, and show her our simple backwoods life. We thought she would run screaming, but she just wanted more. What a tough lady in so many ways. She has inspired me and I have learned so much from her in a very short time of actually getting to know her. Jo Ann, you will be in my heart in Alaska for the rest of my life. Thank you for teaching us about living.

JoAnn and I met 40 years ago when she came to be the art teacher at the elementary school where I taught music. She introduced herself and said we were going to be friends, and so we were for many years. My husband, Skip, shared a birthday with JoAnn and always called her his twin sister, even though he was 7 years older. JoAnn, her mom, Jennie, Skip and I enjoyed several trips together through the years. JoAnn did love to travel. We will miss her so much and are thankful that we had such a good friend as JoAnn.

JoAnn, yours was a life well-lived. You raised the bar very high for all of us....You were a shining example of faith, devotion to family and friends, kindness, tolerance, perseverance and humor. I can't think about you without smiling! And yes, purple has become my favorite color because of you! I know you have now been reunited with your husband, your dad and numerous family and friends who were waiting for you up in Heaven. As you continue your eternal progression, I have no doubt that you will continue to influence others for good. You are undoubtedly one of our Heavenly Father's choicest daughters. Love you and miss you, my sweet friend. ~ Thea

JoAnn, I was so lucky to have met you a few years ago. You made such a favorable impression on both my husband, Dick, and me. We were both so glad we were able to meet you. We found in you someone who was a wonderful person, was a great daughter, and was someone I (we) were very proud to be able to call friend. May you now walk in peace among the angels.

JoAnn, you were a loving Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend. You handled your illness with more grace than anyone I have ever known - you always had a smile and an upbeat attitude. You left a legacy of happiness and love - I know all of your former students will never forget you and all of the love you gave to them. We will always be grateful for your friendship - we love you. I am a member of a cyber group which witnessed JoAnn's brave struggle with cancer for the last few years. She was such an remarkable example of courage. Her amazing strength to forge on living her life after numerous set backs made her such a powerful testament to the tenacity of the human spirit. May she rest in peace and experience the bliss of her new home in paradise.
