Peter Mykrantz Obituary

MYKRANTZ Peter Shedd Mykrantz, age 78, died peacefully at home on April 2, 2009 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by family. HomeReach/Hospice, and caregivers Betty and Laura provided the comfort and care he needed. A lifelong resident of Bexley, Peter graduated from Columbus Academy in 1948 and Williams College in 1952, where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gatling as a Lieutenant J.G. When he returned to Columbus, he married Jane Power in 1957. He went to work for the Huntington Bank before joining Paine Webber as a stockbroker. He ended his career as an investment advisor with AG Edwards. Peter was a lifelong member of the Columbus Beach Club on Burt Lake in northern Michigan and served on the boards of Buckeye Boys Ranch and Gladden Community House. He pursued his love of horse racing as a founding partner of Shazam Stables. Surviving Peter is his wife of 51 years, Jane Power Mykrantz; sons, Peter S. (Debra) Mykrantz Jr. and Donald M. (Susan) Mykrantz; sisters, Brenda (George) Milum and Karen O'Keefe; grandchildren, Lauren, Jenni, David, Jack, Katie, and Christopher; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 E Broad Street with a visitation prior on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Peter,
I was saddened to see the passing of your father in the paper the other day. Even though I hadn't seen him in many years, I still fondly remember those days of growing up on S. Ardmore. It really was a "Mayberry" existence. The whistles out the front door to call you and Donny in from playing are still clearly etched in my memory.May your heart and soul gain strength through these trying times with your belief our lord and all that he promises.
