Gladys Varble Obituary

Gladys Marie Varble
Jun. 8, 1919 - Oct. 2, 2011
Resident of Hayward
Gladys died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes while recovering from a minor infection at the Kaiser Post Acute Care Center in San Leandro.
An extremely strong willed feisty woman who true to form refused routine medication only one hour before her sudden death was predeceased by her husband Kenith David Varble, Sr., sons Kenith David Varble, Jr., and Dennis Lee Varble. She is survived by her daughter Vana Chavez, son Vaughn Varble and his wife Colleen, grandchildren Lisa Chavez, Jory Chavez, Kimberly Ray, James Varble, Dylan Varble, great grandson Logan Chavez and dear family friend Esther Hopton.
Gladys was employed by the Daily Review for over 35 years and retired from full-time employment at the tender age of 79. Unfortunately 1 1/2 years after her retirement she suffered a fall that shattered her knee cap which hobbled her and left her pretty much house-bound. Gladys loved gardening and took great pride in her beautiful backyard. She was a gourmet cook (pie baker extraordinaire), remarkable housekeeper and serious card player. She volunteered at Suicide Prevention, Can Support and FESCO.
A private graveside service will occur and the Golden Gate National Cemetery in the near future. Donations in Gladys's honor can be made to the charity of your choice.
Gladys lived a long and full life and managed to accomplish her most fervent wish of living in her home until the end.
