When I attended dental school John walked into my lab at UCSF and was amazed that I was in dental school, I was not the best student at Miramonte-ask any teacher there. He was always very helpful and supportive towards me as he donated his time at UCSF, his alma mater,as a part time professor. He was always a kind and generous man and a great dentist and will be missed by many. My condolences to his family. Gary Hale

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting john, Maryann and the girls when he first started his practice in San Ramon and I became the daycare provider for their girls. John was also our dentist until we moved and retired in Oregon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Maryann, the girls and their entire families

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I think of the family often even though you do not know me. I do love hearing my aunt Pat's memories of family and it is so difficult having lost another family member . Memories help us cope, I hope you can spend a good amount of time remembering and celebrating the life of John. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Love Andrea (Mooers) Richmond a cousin across the country but not far in thoughts and love.

He was an incredibly kind man who also happened to be a phenomenal dentist. He will be greatly missed.

Dr Burkman was my dentist for 32 years. His work was excellent and he commented that I had a great intuitive sense of my body. It gave me the courage to stand up to other doctors when I felt I had more knowledge about what was happening to me. I consider him a great friend and mentor and it is/was a privilege to know him. He had a most gentle touch and when he filled a tooth or made a crown I could run my tongue over my mouth and not know which tooth had work. He is greatly missed by our family. He is the only dentist my son has known and now Alexander will have to find a dentist in New Jersey. He has been flying here for dental work.

I was very sorry to hear of John's passing. Although we were not very close while attending Dental School, I have fond memories of him. He was my partner when we were practicing administering local anesthesia (to each other!) It had been a long time when as second year students to be able to laugh so much.

My condolences to Mary Ann, their daughters and family.
