Gladys FORSYTHE Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Jun. 23, 2018.
FORSYTHE, Gladys Loraine (Skakum)
(nee Helley)
June 14, 1918 - June 16, 2018
It is with sorrow beyond words that we announce the passing of our family Matriarch- Gladys Loraine Forsythe at the age of 100 years and 2 days.
She is survived by her daughter Lila Ann Cormack, 3 grandchildren: Linda Bailey (Earl), Lori Orchin (Tony ex.) and Jamie Orchin (Karen); 5 great-grandchildren: Tamara Bailey, Amanda Anderson (George), Meagan Orchin (Dustin), Brianna Orchin and Christopher Orchin; 5 great-great- grandchildren: Anjalie, Tyler, Zackary, George Jr. and Hailey; her ex son-in-law Jim Orchin and special friends Tom Schmidt and James Lenz.
Predeceased by her parents Oscar and Jensina; 4 sisters Aurelia, Ruby, Thelma and June; 2 brothers LaVern and Bobby; 2 great- great-granddaughters Lorelei and Keira and husbands Fred Skakum and Glen Forsythe.
Gladys was born in Adams, North Dakota and came to Canada in 1920 with her Mom and Dad, older sister and brother. They settled in Ryley, AB. Gladys married Fred Skakum from Holden, AB and lived there until relocating to Edmonton. Many years later she married Glen Forsythe.
She was the Matriarch of 5 generations twice over. Gladys was a strong, independent, passionate and articulate woman who debated politics, love and life in general. She shared her wisdom with friends and sometimes fellow listeners of her favorite radio show. She loved fiercely and lived in a way that was true to her values. She always had time for her family and friends and loved hugs from her great-great-grandchildren. She always wanted to feed everyone that walked in the door. She loved listening to the Oilers on her radio.
She will be missed more than words can say!
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Kingsway Legion, 14339-50 Street, Edmonton.
